Can I get a Whoop-Whoop?? It's Beginning to Look a Lot LIke....


Hi, all!


I know it's only July, but for me this week it's been looking a lot like Christmas.  For one thing, Lilli has re-discovered "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" - we've watched it three times this week!  I'm starting to quote some of the lines before Jim Carrey gets them out......


But I also finally finished my oldest UFO!  I looked back, and this is what I wrote in my very first blogpost, on January 9, 2010....


Today I cut out strips with my new electric rotary cutting machine for a Trip Around The World quilt. I saw the inspiration for this quilt on our trip to Seattle at a quilt shop called Under Cover Quilts at the Pike Place Farmers Market. Hanging in the window was a beautiful quilt made up of 2" squares of Christmas fabric. My husband remarked on how beautiful it was - and I immediately flashed on the stash of Christmas fabrics I have tucked away! Once we got back home, I pulled out the fabrics and found that I had eighteen different prints (yep, told you I had a serious fabric jones!), easily enough for the top of at least one large quilt and probably several lap size quilts too! I'll post pictures as the quilt comes along........




The next day I posted this picture, and then the quilt went quietly into oblivion as the quilt ministry started up.  


In December 2010, lovely Myra started the PhD Challenge to finish our Projects Half Done - great idea!  I signed up for six PhDs, thinking I could get one done each month before the June 30th deadline.  Well, in January I did manage to finish the flimsies for two of my PhDs - and my Christmas quilt was one of them.  


Then the quilt ministry went ballistic!  We've distributed 50 quilts so far this year, and made a few more than that - almost as many as we made in all of 2010.  So much for finishing those other PhDs!  


But last week I decided that I was going to finish at least one of mine - so I completed the back for my Christmas quilt and loaded it on the quilting frame!  Here she is in all her finished glory - Visions of Sugarplums!!

So now I'll have a lovely quilt to cuddle up under for Christmas - at least I hope so! Lilli took one look at it and told me she needed to take it home to her house.  I told her it was mine, and she said, "OK, Nana, you can have it during the summer!"  What a stinker!!

  1. I finished up a hiding old UFO too, but I don't remember making this - reminded by one of my Yahoo groups that this was one of their 'weekend' projects - paper pieced water lily pattern.

  3. Good for you! I have a nightmare UFO that started as a Quilt-Around-The-World too and I am still not sure how to finish it, but I just LOVE how yours came out. It's my favorite pattern.

  4. A Great Big Whoop! Whoop! to you, Sarah! Nice quilt. I may have as much Christmas fabrics as you do. I have at least 2 large plastic bins full. I'm still working on my latest Santa block exchange (due July 11th), so, I'm getting the Christmas vibe, too.

  5. Love your around the world quilt. I did one a few years back out of Batiks - with the right sewing and cutting techniques you can easily complete the top in under a week. Super fun and it is going to be great at Christmas time :)

  9. Love the front and the back. I'd like to do a quilt like this one day.

    Its a shame that it's warm here at Christmas time! I'd love to snuggle under a Christmas quilt.

  10. OMGoodness this post was so fun! Your Christmas quilt is sooooooooo wonderful. You have me wanting to make one now. Might just make a tree skirt first! Keep saying I AM GOING TO...

    The last thing you wrote about your Granddaughter saying you can keep it during the summer made me giggle:) She is a gem:):)

  11. I think you probably used the quadrant method for that TATW so, that back was almost more work than the front. Great job!!

  12. Hey Sarah I just want to ask you what kind of electric rotary cutter do you have. I have been looking at all of rotary cutter's on Market but can't seem to make up my mind.I have questioned a lot of people who have Go cutters but no one with an electric one. Thanks for any help you can give. I am just cutting out a quilt for my grandson, it is the "The very Hungry Caterpillar".
