What's Cookin' at The Sweatshop, Week #10

Hi, all!

It's been a little bit slower at the Sweatshop this week - thankfully!  But we have a few quilts that were delivered this week...

This cute quilt, pieced by Robin, a new member of our quilt ministry, is made with Max & Whiskers prints.  Robin pieced it together, then decided she didn't like it for herself and donated it to the quilt ministry.  The next day, another ministry member, who teaches in a local public school, was telling me about one of her students - a child going through a very difficult time, both at school and at home.  It seemed like the perfect match!  So this quilt has been finished and delivered - hopefully making a little boy's life a little brighter!

This pretty quilt was pieced by myself and Tracy and is going to live with a lady dealing with many complications of diabetes.  We were told that these were her favorite colors, and I think it turned out really nicely - calm and peaceful!!  The design for this quilt was created by Lisa over at Shiner's View - you can see her tutorial for this quilt here.  Be sure to check out some of her other designs too - Lisa is very talented!!

This quilt is going to a young father in central Florida who was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.  I started to pull "man color" fabrics for a quilt for him - you know, browns, deep blues, rusts - autumn colors.  Then I remembered that Florida doesn't get autumn colors - everything stays green there most of the year!  So I dragged out my small stash of batiks to make this quilt by Amy Ellis's great design from her book Modern Basics.  I highly recommend this book, by the way - awesome and relatively simple designs!!  The back is just a short coin strip of leftover batiks set into a tone-on-tone fabric print that feels batik-ish, even though it's not really a batik.

And this pretty line-up is the seven quilts that our quilt group has made as their contribution to the 100 Quilts For Kids campaign!   I'll be showing these in more detail on my Friday blogpost, with proper credit to each lady who pieced the top, when I link up to 100QFK!  (Two of these aren't quite finished yet - still a little hand sewing to do on them - tomorrow's task!!)  These quilts will be going to the Middle TN Downs Syndrome Society.

So that's what we've been working on this week!  A little easier than last week, so it's nice to take a breather!  Maybe I can get caught up on some of those pretty tops that are waiting to be quilted soon....

Hugs!

Sarah

PS:  My friend Ann over at Renegade Quilter is having a giveaway to celebrate her 200th post!!  Be sure to drop by and check it out!
