I May Have a Scrap Problem... Back on Track!

Hi, all!

What with the holiday weekend and all (Happy 4th of July, by the way!) I almost forgot about my weekly scrap post - but I didn't forget about scrappy sewing!  I'm happy to say that I am *almost* finished with those blasted pineapple blocks....

We had a quiet 4th of July (after going out on the boat early in the morning before it got cloudy and stormy looking) so I spent my afternoon making pineapple blocks.  I got five done Tuesday, and three done on Monday, so I only have two more to go before I can start assembling my Long Time Gone quilt top!  I'll finish those tomorrow afternoon and then boy will I be doing a happy dance!!

If you're thinking about making this quilt, I'd highly recommend doing a couple of the pineapple blocks each week rather than saving them all to do at the end.  They take so long to make, just when you can see the end in sight, that it's a little bit depressing.  I feel pretty comfortable with them now, but they still take me about 45-50 minutes each to make, which means making the required sixteen blocks takes about twelve hours or more!  I don't know about you, but I've been blessed with a short attention span and that seems like a very long time.....

And now on to some inspiration spotted this week on Instagram...

I do love this quilt!  And while this particular quilt isn't scrappy (I think that's AMH's Loominous fabric) I think it would look awesome made all in scraps in a hurry....

And look at this creative take on a traditional fence rail block!  This would be super-simple to make up scrappy, and ooh, would it eat scraps....

And this is my absolute favorite - look at those tiny hexies!  I know I have Christmas on the brain right now (I've been working on the 12 Days of Christmas in July quilt along and blog hop this weekend) but this is just too precious to not share (and maybe make) now!!

So hopefully next week I'll have some assembled sections of my Long Time Gone quilt to share - fingers crossed!

What have you been doing to tame your quilt monster this week?

Hugs!

Sarah

  2. Oh I love those little pineapple blocks! I'm seriously wishing I would've known about this QAL when it began! I do have a pineapple block pattern that I need to dig out, and it's a very small pineapple block in it, so it may take me years. Hmmm.

  3. I'm a chain piecer especially with paper piecing. Prep, stitch, iron, prep.....Makes it go faster. I did cut up scraps (some yardage, but, hey, I don't keep many scraps) for Kevin's Mystery quilt clue #1. Cutting all those little pieces reminds me why I like yardage instead of scraps. I don't like cutting all that fabric.

  4. I finished the borders on a leader ender project tonight! Now I can work on my sister's Christmas blocks and start a new leader ender project (this time some stacked coins in green, orange with a medium gray as the neutral). It's been fun cutting up all my 2 1/2 inch strips into various projects!

  5. I have always loved pineapple blocks and yours look absolutely perfect! I also enjoy making them. I don't know how you do it, but I sew on strips and them trim using a square ruler after each round. I think pineapples are so much fun!

Thanks for this lovely post and also for the Instagram inspirational finds.

  6. Oh, that Instagram quilt top is wonderful! You're right, it would be so awesome in scraps. Very cool!

I'm really looking forward to seeing your entire Long Time Gone quilt all pieced up. Soon, soon!
