A new year has arrived, and that means new beginnings, doesn't it? I haven't finished much this week, but I have started on a couple of things - one a long term project, for sure!
The first thing I've been working on is a quilt for a 14 year old boy with Hodgkins' lymphoma. His choice of colors is red, purple and lime green, so I'll be making that great flying geese quilt with those colors set in Kona Coal. That whole quilt has been cut out, just needs to be sewn together!
And here's my long-term project - I recently purchased this book, Cut The Scraps! And I highly recommend it.... not only does it recommend a system for cutting down your scraps, but it gives twenty patterns that use those scraps! So this year I'm tackling the tubs of scraps that we've accumulated since starting the quilt ministry.. This is only the beginning....
...because (keeping it real) this is what my sewing studio looks like right now!
So I think it's time to dig out!!! Wish me luck.....
*&*&*&*&*&*&*
So now it's your turn!
What have you been working on this week?
Show us! We want to know!!
Anything is worth a whoop whoop...
even unfinished!
You have until Saturday night to link up!
Join the party!!!
Hugs!
Sarah
I love seeing other people's workspaces! Our creativity gets in the way of the neatness and it just makes me feel at home.
ReplyDeleteYour project looks like an ambitious one. ...and that book looks very enticing.
I have started a Swoon project, no pics yet, I haven't blogged about it. But maybe in the next day or too I can get it blogged about. Working on Bonnies mystery Orca Bay too.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your finished pieces. And have fun digging out...looks like a little bit of work, but you can do it. I must say that I LOVE the color on your walls. It's a 'me' color! =)
ReplyDeleteThose look like very bright and cheerful geese!
ReplyDeleteI love!! scrappy quilts. There's just something so great about the surprise that a scrappy quilt creates. I've been organizing my scraps and trying to decide what to do. I'll be excited to see what you decide to make.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting book sounds like a book we all need! I am going to sort my scraps this year and start using more of them! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're going to be busy in the next few weeks!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've got some great starts planned. I checked that book out from the library last month and I loved the projects, but the system seemed too organized for me, LOL! Not that I don't wish I had a system or that I won't drool over yours, though. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteFabulous beginnings, Sarah! I'm hoping to get organized enough to join in this linky fun at some point. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think you're really going to enjoy having all your scraps pre-cut. For me, it helps eliminate some of the initial inertia around picking out fabrics for scrap quilts. The flying geese quilt looks like it's going to be quite the looker!
ReplyDeleteI'm just thankful for a big closet with a door that closes. LOL I'll have to look for that book. I live in hope of getting my pile of scraps down.
ReplyDeleteI'm Swooning! I also am Schnibblin' but, almost done with my DH's business taxes! Yahoo! How do I take a pic of that? Isn't that a great book?
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to figure out a good way to deal with the ever growing scrap stash, and that book might just be the trick!
ReplyDeleteOH ! your quilt looks like it is going to be gorgeous ! I guess I'll have to add this book to my never ending list at Amazon.com ! I assume if you prepare your scraps then they will sew up very quickly , huh ????? I only wish I was 1/3 as organized as you Sarah . So your studio is a little messy ; that means it's being used !It would be great to live by you and be part of your ministry and sewing groups !!! we can't sew and have an organized studio and house ............... ( that's my outlook anyway ! ) . Have a great week !
ReplyDeleteWith the New Year there are lots of posts about organizing, so that's what I did. Also, with DS home all day yesterday I knew I wouldn't get much quilting done, so I tidied up a bit. I also hope to get a handle on my scraps so I can start doing some fun projects with them this year.
ReplyDeleteWould love to cohost/sponsor a scrappy challenge! Just let me know.
ReplyDeleteI relate to your Keeping It Real!
Love the colors for the young man's quilt!
With the volume of fabric you must go through, this should be really beneficial for you! Go get 'em!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing what you were working on.....did someone need to come and find you or did you work your way out?
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I am starting a small scrap monster pile that sooner ot later I will need to address. Great inspiration!
