What's Cookin' At The Sweatshop?

Hi, all!

It's been an interesting and busy week so far, here in Tennessee - I hope things are going well wherever you are!  I've got a few quilts to share with you today, and a new upcoming project, so let's get started!

First of all, one of the quilts I shared with you last week has found a new home.  It was originally slated to be used by the pastor for the healing and prayer service, but we had a need come up and this was the perfect quilt for it.

This quilt went all the way to Hawaii, to give a quilt-y hug to a woman just diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer.  She wrote back to say that it kept her warm through all her scans this week, as they work to diagnose and determine treatment for her.

This quilt, pieced by Joanna, went to a little 3-year old boy who is going to have surgery on his skull...

...and this one, made from a top donated by Carol C., went to his mother, who is really struggling with the fact that he needs surgery.  This will be his second surgery, and the first was very difficult.  Our hope is that these quilts will remind them of God's love and our prayers for them every time they see them.

And this pretty quilt, made by A.D., is going to a young mom in our community who was just diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  It's so horrible to see young people dealing with cancer, and even harder when there are children involved....

So those are the quilts we've given away this week.  We'll be working on at least two more this week (so far) plus a slew of baby quilts - there are seven expectant moms that we know of right now!

And now for the new project!  One of our church members has a real heart for orphans, and has contacted the local Dept. of Children's Services about any needs they might have.  They requested bags for the children to use when they move from one home to another. 

It turns out that the kids usually only have a garbage sack to carry their stuff in and sometimes they end up breaking and spilling their belongings everywhere.  So we are going to help her make some of these sacks/duffles for DCS to keep on hand.  She's not a sewer, but I think we can work these up pretty quick and easy!

So that's what we've been working on at the sweatshop this week!  Saturday we meet to sew and we'll be having a class on making T-shirt quilts - should be fun!
