I have been having such fun playing in my scraps this month - Jen Kingwell designed an awesome pattern in Long Time Gone, and I'm using up scraps right and left. Here are the blocks I worked on last week...
I made this block using a bunch of five inch squares I got at QuiltCon this year in sample giveaways - aren't the colors pretty?
And these are definitely scrappy - I pulled the churn dash bits from the scrap buckets, and the backgrounds are some scraps of Modern Background by Zen Chic. Each churn dash measures only 3" square! Tiny!!
... and here are all the blocks I have put together so far! This is going to be such a fun quilt!
This week I'm looting my bonus triangles tub and working on the half-square triangle blocks. It's so good to be using those - and it makes me want to use all of them! I'm out of sequence with those blocks, but I wanted to to work on my Long Time Gone quilt and didn't have time to cut the tiny strips for the next one in the sequence. So I jumped ahead!
So that's what I've been working on with my scraps this week. But I also read a very interesting and well-written post last week, written by Annie of Annie's Ruby Slipperz. In it, she talks about Marie Kondo's book, and her philosophy of decluttering by only keeping things which spark joy in you. Now that's a different philosophy of decluttering - as Annie puts it - - - decluttering your stash by getting close to see what sparks joy. Her post is a fun read and will certainly make you think about your stash! I'm pleased to say, though, that after working through my scrap problem for the past year or so, that my scraps DO spark joy in me now! You can read Annie's post by clicking here.
Hugs!
Sarah
you certainly have a nice selection of blocks here. I have told myself no more fabric I think I have more than I can ever use not sure how long it will last be am determined not to buy more unless of course I see something unresistable! As for scraps they seem to be growing by the minute must set aside some time for having another sort our!
ReplyDeleteI have batik scarps by the mile, but now I am starting a new project, they will all come in so very handy. little pieces are all I need, so will use them up pronto. But I admit, I do stash a lot of stuff!!! Hugh would say, I am the tops in stashing, no wait, I think he actually said that dreaded word HOARDING !!
ReplyDeleteI love her pattern! When I tried to get it, I was too late.
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice grouping of blocks going :) I have Marie Kondo-ed a large part of my stash and am now sewing with some of my more treasured happy fabrics, it does spark the joy! The guilt is a little hard to get past though in getting rid of fabrics, I have donated and given away more than I care to admit.
ReplyDeleteI love all your beautiful blocks, but the tiny Churns just tickle me! I get gifted treasures and love making blocks and quilts to pass on. When I process those fun baggies and find something that is more someone elses 'joy', I pass those things on
ReplyDeleteYou do just great work. Love the blocks. I hope to quilt one if not two of our quilt ministry tops this week. We have 4 lap size tops ready and one baby top ready. I have also been cutting more pieces for the baby quilts from the donated fabric we have gotten. There are just not enough hours in the day to do all I want to do lol. Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeletethanks for the link to Annie's; I like the idea of re-folding--but, when you cut these fabrics into strips or squares or whatever--they do CHANGE--perhaps, you foresaw something in that one, ("Why did I buy this one?" ) hiding in the whole piece...so I add, cut up a few pieces before heaving it out...I have been very surprised sometimes when I have done this...love your blocks, hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. I made some 3" churndash blocks. Smallest blocks I've ever made! No scrap using st my house st the moment!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to that decluttering blog post. Destashing more fabrics has been on my mind recently and I think it's time to listen to that.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your blocks. I love the philosophy of only keeping what sparks joy. :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are delightful, Sarah. Those tiny churn dash blocks are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThose little churn dash blocks just make my heart go pitter patter! I love the bright colors of all of the blocks you are making!
ReplyDeleteYou really have some nice blocks. I also went to Annie's link and posted there. My fabric does give me joy and I could relate to some of her comments. My plan for getting rid of my stash is to make more quilts!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts.
Love those churn dashes!
