It's Friday again, and time to get our whoop whoop on!! I hope you've got something you can share - I know we're getting to that time of year when we're all working on secret projects!
I'm really happy to be able to say that I have finally finished the antique quilt repair job!! Here it is in all its glory…
This is a big quilt - and like most antique quilts, it's very heavy! It was a real workout manipulating it through my sewing machine...
Here's a shot of several of the stars that I repaired. You can read more about how I did it here…. You can even see how bad it looked before I started repairing it!
You can see in this shot the dated signature blocks - from 1938!
And this shot is just for fun, 'cause it's pretty! I love the color of a blue fall sky!!
So that's what I'm whooping about today - I'm so glad to have this finished and off my plate! My friend will be giving this family treasure to his sister for Christmas. I sure hope she will enjoy it!

And one little historical note, since today is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. This picture was made on 11/22/63 in Fort Worth, TX before the motorcade took
President Kennedy to Dallas…
See the white haired gentleman in the lower center of the picture? That's my great-grandfather. He was big in Southern politics in the 1960's and was at a breakfast with President Kennedy the morning of the day he was assassinated. Kennedy's funeral is the first major thing I remember as a child - I had just turned six, and I remember my father pulled our tv out in the middle of the living room to watch the funeral. It was a big cabinet TV and my mother had painted it red…. It's funny the things you remember!
*&*&*&*&*&*&*
And now it's your turn!
What are you whooping about this week?
Share what you can - we want to whoop along with you!
Sneak peeks and teasers are permitted during the holidays -
We don't want to spoil anyone's Christmas!
The party will remain open until Sunday midnight -
Hope to see you there!
Hugs!
Sarah
Most excellent repair, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteThat was a sad day. Thank you for sharing the story and picture about your grandfather.
That was so interesting reading about your repair. I too love to restore old quilts. I just can't resist trying to see if I can go it. You've made a great job of that.
ReplyDeleteKind regards
Linda
It is wierd what we remember! My young memory is of the first man landing on the moon. My mom had her ironing board set up in the livingroom...and we were all glued to the TV..not wanting to miss a moment! (Thxs for stopping by during the blog hop! Good Luck in the give-aways!) :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this quilt. The fact that it is old makes it even more interesting. Wow amazing what you remember when something so significant happens in the world Sarah. As always, thank you for hosting the linky. Have a great weekend. Marie (mlismore@optusnet.com.au)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the repair! I think it is a wonderful quilt , now with some extra love and attention!

How cool! Both the quilt repair & your ggf being at the breakfast! I do reparation work on old quilts and fully recognise the dilemma. You did a great job giving it new life. Well done!
ReplyDeleteRepair work looks awesome. Did you use new fabric for the repair? Interesting that your grandfather attended an event just before the assassination of Kennedy. I have similar memories of my dad having the tv going on watching the funeral and news surrounding Kennedy. So sad! Thanks for hosting your linky party.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt repair work is really well done, and the person who receives this quilt is very lucky. It is so special. Thanks for sharing your JFK family memories, that is so interesting.
ReplyDeleteYippee to you for the finish. It is just gorgeous and great that it can continue to be loved for many years to come.
ReplyDeletegreat job on the repair work! It really looks great!
ReplyDeleteYour antique quilt is lovely; funny how it looks so modern now! Your friend should be very happy with your repairs.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the repair! That is such a gorgeous quilt, and hard to believe how old it is...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Quilt! I just stumbled upon your blog...love it! Following you now. I saw you are from Mount Juliet...I'm from Brentwood. Its always nice to 'see' some one close to home!
ReplyDeleteWow, Sarah, what a great job! You have inspired me to perhaps try repairing my husband's grandma's quilts. They look a lot like that one! Also, what a wonderful family treasure you have with that photo. Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic repair job on the antique quilt! How interesting to have such a family link to history. I remember the funeral on TV, but I was just 3, and my sister and I arranged the chairs and other furniture in the living room like a horse-drawn procession and played while it was on. It is odd the memories we have of that time.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful quilt, great repair! I enjoyed reading about your memories :)
ReplyDeleteSarah, your repaired quilt is stunning. I love signature quilts and their history.
ReplyDeleteI have posted in the Link how people can help Tornado victims in Washington and Pekin. I know quilters have big hearts. Thank you in advance.
Wonderful repair job there, sarah!
ReplyDeleteExcellent repair job. I need to repair one I inherited from grandma and have been afraid to try it. Thanks for the repair idea.
ReplyDeleteI was 12 when President Kennedy was shot. I remember watching the black and white news clips over and over again on TV. How cool is it that you have a photo of your great grandfather at breakfast with the President!! My great grandfathers died before I was born and never got to know them.
Beautiful repair job. It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI like your fix, Sarah. The quilt looks better.
ReplyDeleteI do remember the day... I was 15 and sitting in study hall when the announcement came over the PA system. We were shocked and scared. We watched the funeral at home, we got the day off from school. I think we all remember where we were.
Hugs
I think you had a very good idea to fix that antique quilt and it shows wonderfully! I can't believe you were able to fix the border as well. It looked like a dog took a bite clear off it! You are talented friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful repair job you did! I'm sure she will enjoy it for years to come. Some of those old quilts are real treasures, and this is one!
ReplyDeleteI was recommended this website by my cousin. Im not sure whether this post is written by him as no one else know as much regarding my trouble. Youre wonderful! :D
