Make-A-List Monday - Show Me The Mini!!

Hi, all!

I'm so excited - I can't wait to see who else made a mini this week! I had a lot of fun making mine, and it's already hanging up in my studio.

I started with sixteen denim 5"squares from the scrap bin.

 Then I whacked and re-assembled...

...turned it once, whacked and re-assembled again!

Then I whacked it again and added some strips of 1.5" square scraps sewn together, and ended up with this!  I love seeing the sun shining through it.

But I wasn't done there - I decided since I live in the Nashville area, there needed to be some bling to go with those denim blues.  A container of the kids' craft items yielded some silver beads and I stitched them on.

And here's my finished mini!

I particularly like this little motif I found in a box while I was looking for embellishments!  Since this won't be washed I figured it would be ok to add it on.

I found a pretty linen stripe for the binding...

...and these cute little gray hedgehogs for the back!

And now it hangs on the wall just inside the entrance to my studio! I have another large quilt to hang in the big empty space, I just haven't found the hanging rod yet.  Maybe tomorrow!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

So now, I want to see what you've created!  Did you have a chance to make a mini this week?  Or maybe you've made one in the past that you love and you'd like to share.  (It can even be from an old blogpost or Instagram post!)  Whatever it is, "Show Me The Mini"!!

Hugs!

I May Have A Scrap Problem... A Little Ray of Sunshine!

Hi, all!

Well, I got a wild hair earlier this week when I was writing my Monday blogpost, and decided to make a mini quilt in honor/memory of this strange strange time in our world.  I dragged out my scrap boxes and found a stack of denim squares...

...but of course I couldn't leave it at that!  So I whacked...

...and reassembled.  Then I turned it and whacked it again!

Well, if something worked twice, why not whack again?
The 1 1/2" squares came in to play, too, and I ended up with...

This!  I taped it up in the window so I could get that "stained glass" effect, and I love the way it looks!  Of course, it still has a ways to go...

...because in Nashville, all denim has bling!  I'll keep working on it this week and see how it ends up - check back in Monday to see the results!

And now, how about some inspiration?  I've seen some lovely things on Instagram this week...

....like these sweet and scrappy hearts...

...and now about these?  This is a stunning pattern I need to work out for myself!

And although it's not designed to be a heart, this one reminds me of that also.  This quilt is made with selvages, I think!  Isn't it wonderful?

But this quilt really spoke to me this week.  I love the story behind the hymn this quote comes from.  The author's wife and daughters were lost at sea, and he penned this after their deaths.  The lesson that we can rise above our current situation rings so true in these days!  So stay in, stay safe, stay healthy.

Hugs!

Make-A-LIst Monday - How About a Virtual Sewing Meet-Up?

Hi, all!

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get use to our new normal these days.  I've learned to grocery shop just one day a week instead of making three or four trips.  I'm enjoying taking walks on sunny days, and my dog loves going for walks!  I've even started doing jigsaw puzzles on the dining room while I eat breakfast and lunch. Thankfully, my daughter has a bunch of really good ones that I've been borrowing!

But I r-e-a-l-l-y miss sewing with my peeps!  It just doesn't seem right to not get together with a group of friends and sit around chatting while we sew.

So today when I got an email from the Modern Quilt Guild, I noticed the picture above, an advertisement for an on-line class, and got to thinking...

I love my wall of quilt minis - some made by me, some made by blog friends...

...some I even picked up before I became a quilter!  Others were made....

...with the leftovers from full size quilts, like the one in the bottom of this picture.  This is actually the first place I've had it hanging on the wall, and I never really noticed how "optical" it is before!  I am loving this one more and more every day.

So - here's my idea!  Why don't we have a "virtual" sewing meet-up, and each make a fun mini this week?  Then next Monday I'll have a link-up on here so we can each share our mini!

Your mini might be a mug rug, or a pin cushion, a post card or a wall hanging - the sky's the limit!  Square, round, octagonal, free form - branch out, try something new and different.  Use a color you don't normally use, or a technique.  Add mixed media, make it three dimensional, just have fun with it!  Size is completely up to you.  Let's see what we can create as a memento of our 2020 Coronavirus Quarantine!

Are you game?  I hope so!

Hugs!

Sarah
