Make-A-List Monday - Crunch Time!

Hi, all!

Another week has come and gone, and the end of the year is coming up so fast!  Hard to believe that it's already October, isn't it?  And so much is going on in the next few weeks - I really need to get my thoughts together and make a comprehensive to-do list and STICK BY IT!  

But first, let's see what I managed to do on last week's list...

1.  Baste the two commission quilts.

2.  Quilt the two commission quilts.

Done!  Both of these are ready for delivery - hooray!!  No more commission work until after the first of the year.

3.  Start sorting out my strings for January's tutorial series.

Done!  And I love this storage that I repurposed - it was part of the haul of goodies I got from my friend who was moving.  

4.  Find and make a back for the special secret project.

Done!  I love this piece of fabric I found, and it's extra wide, so no piecing!  Hooray for small miracles!

5.  Deliver the donations to church.

I didn't get to this last week, but I have to go to the old house tomorrow to meet some workmen, so I will drop them off then.

6.  Keep working on the dinosaur quilt.

All the blocks are done, and I'm starting to put in the sashing.

So all in all, not too bad with only one thing I didn't get a chance to work on.  And that's good, because I realized as I looked at my calendar for October that I am going to lose fourteen working days this month.  I am going to be serving as a poll worker for early voting in our county, which I'm really excited about, but it sure will cut into my quilting time!  So - that means I've got to get organized!  Here's my list for this week...

1.  Baste and quilt the special project quilt.

2.  Make a back for the reindeer quilt.

3.  Make a back for Emmalyn's annual quilt.

4.  Assemble the dinosaur quilt top.

5.  Choose an additional fabric to make borders to bring the dinosaur quilt to a more usable size.

6.  Make a back for the Harry Potter quilt.

7.  Decorate the front porch for Halloween.

8.  Deliver the donations to church.

9.  Organize house documents for the new owners.

I'm really excited about that last item on the list - yes, it appears that we have a buyer for the house, and a tentative closing date!  Keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer, turn around and spit on the ground three times, whatever works - we should finally be single home owners by the end of October.  That would be the very best birthday present of all!

Oh - one other thing happened this week!  My son-in-law's cousin got married and my grandkids were part of the wedding party.  So of course we have wonderful pictures of them all dressed up and looking so grown up!  From left to right, Emmy, their cousin Mya, Nathanael, and Lilli.  Don't they look great?

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Herd of Dinos, And Other Random Stuff

 

Hi, all!

It's Friday again!!!  And October - can you believe it?  This year seems to have flown by, and my favorite season has arrived.  That's definitely whoop-worthy!  And since it's Friday, it's time for us to get our whoop-whoop on, so let's get started!

This week I worked on Nathanael's annual quilt, and I'm pleased to introduce you to...

Trixie the Triceratops, and...

her brother, Toto the Triceratops!  These two rounded out the whole gang, and I was able to put  all the blocks up on the design wall to see how they look together.

This is going to be such a fun quilt!  There is still sashing to put between the blocks, and I need to find a border, but the hard part is finished.  Well, except for figuring out how to quilt it!

I'm also whooping it up a bit because I turned several sets of piles like this....

...into neatly organized-by-color drawers full of strings!  This is in preparation for next January's tutorial series, String Therapy.  I feel so accomplished and organized!  Too bad the rest of the scrap stash doesn't look this good.... 😂

Make-A-List Monday - Fall Is Sewing Season!

 

Hi, all!

The weekend is over, and Monday has arrived, with a whole week of potential ahead of it!  Cooler temperatures coming this week, too, which always puts me in the mood to sew.  Are you the same way?  Fall is my favorite season - the colors, the cooler weather, and the upcoming holidays make it so much fun.  

I had fun with last week's list, too - let's see how it went....

1.  Work on a special secret project.

This one really grabbed my attention this week, and I managed to finish the top.  Here's a sneak peek...

2.  Keep working on the dinosaur blocks - stegosaurus is up next!

I cut out the stegosaurus blocks...

...and even sewed one of them together!  This was a fun block to make.

3.  Make backs for the commission quilts.

Done!  These guys are BIG!

4.  Baste the two commission quilts.

I didn't get to this one - I got really focused on that first project.

5.  Put the quilt ministry donations in my car so they will be there already when I head that way!

Done!  I don't have a picture, but I promise they are in there.  It feels good to have them out of the studio and it already looks a little neater.

So all in all, a pretty good week.  Let's see what's on tap for this week!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Dinos in the House!

 

Hi, all!

Can you believe it's Friday already?  This week has flown by - but it IS Friday and that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  Let's get started!

My week really did fly by, and I don't feel like I got a whole lot done -but I did start on Nathanael's annual quilt!  I am using Elizabeth Hartman's Dinosaurs pattern, and it is a lot of fun!  I had some trouble with the first dinosaur block I made, but then I went back and actually read her step-by-step instructions instead of just going by the diagram, and lo and behold, it worked!  Who knew?

I did manage to get four of the eight dinosaurs finished (and also the ferns, cycads, and vines) so let me introduce you to the gang....

First there was Danny the Dinosaur...

...who was quickly joined by his friend Barry the Brachiosaur.

Then Thor the T-Rex showed up...

...and brought his friend Thunder to round out the crew!

I still have the Stegosaurus and Triceratops blocks to make, and it will be fun to add them to the quilt and see it come to life.  Maybe not this week, though.  I am also whooping because I found an acceptable substitute for one of the Kona colors I had on back order, and was able to start on the second t-shirt quilt commission today!  Hooray!!!
