Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Scrappy "Squirrel"!

Hi, all!

Friday sure got here in a hurry, didn't it? And Thanksgiving is less than a week away - say what???  Cold weather is upon us here in middle Tennessee, too - we actually had little spits of snow in the Nashville area, although they got more just west of us.  But since it's Friday, that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on - are you ready?  Let's go!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Wednesday I shared that I had a "squirrel" moment with my scraps (actually I think it was just so I didn't have to keep cutting them up!) but I actually had two!  Remember Emmy's annual quilt top?

When I got to this point, the next step was to make a very large square of the background fabric and sew it across the corner.  You can see the result below...

That left me with two really big triangles, one of the background fabric and one of multicolor stripes.  I cut each in half, sewed them together as an hourglass block, then cut that into fourths to get half square triangles.  Kept repeating the process - hourglass blocks to half square triangles to hourglass blocks - until I had a nice assortment of hourglass blocks.

Pulled it together into this center, and decided to add a pretty border to finish it off as a baby quilt.

Don't you love it when you have the perfect border fabric on hand?

And the sun was also on hand so I could get a good stained glass shot!!

On the frame pretty quick - I had a great backing on hand too!

Sometimes you just get a great picture - this one shows my little "sign-off" on a quilt - I usually try to put a little heart at the very end of my quilting.

And I got some new labels this week!  Dutch Label Shop asked me to try out some of their labels and, if I liked them, mention them to my blog followers.  Well, I have to say I was VERY impressed with these labels!  Their website is very easy to use, and you can create your own labels using the tools they provide.  And I had my new labels in less than a week!

Isn't that a beautiful little pile of labels? They are woven, not printed...

...and they're almost as pretty on the back as on the front!  The edges are finished somehow, so they don't fray.  I'll definitely be getting more of these!

And here's some good news - right now (until Monday 11/19) you can use the code SAVE20 to save 20% off everything on their website!  And if you can't order by 11/19, you can get a 15% discount until the end of December using code fabricaddictquilts15.

And I have another thing I'm whooping about this week...

This is what my foyer looked like on Monday...

...and here's what it looks like today! I've still got to paint the stairs, but that's a little bit of a logistical nightmare, since we pretty much live up there - and you can't walk on freshly painted stairs for about 24 hours!  But sooner or later we'll get them done. They'll be painted a very dark espresso brown, with white risers.  I still need to hang art, but that will happen soon!

And because this made me laugh this evening when my husband shared it...

Be sure to spend some quality time with your family this week!

Can I get a whoop whoop?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping it up this week?

What's got you doing a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? The Last Annual Quilt (for this year...)

Hi, all!

Friday is here again - the last Friday before Christmas!  And you know what that means - it's time to get our whoop whoop on!!  I hope you've got something you can share, but if it's still secret sewing, be sure to come back next week and share then!  For now, though, let's get started...

Here's the last of the annual quilts for my grandkids - at least for this year!  This one is for Nathanael, who needed a new twin-sized quilt for his bed.

I really love these over-sized plus blocks - made of 8" squares.  It really packs a punch in the primary colors!

The colors were chosen based on this great superhero sheet we found at Pottery Barn Kids a couple of years ago.

Superheroes are his favorite!  Remember his Batman quilt from last year?  I hope he'll love this one just as much...

And here's the label for his quilt.

Can I get a whoop whoop??

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping it up this week?

What's making you do a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Make-A-List Monday - Christmas is So Close!

Hi, all!

I know it's hard to believe, but just one week from today at this time, Christmas will be over!  All the work, anticipation, gift buying, wrapping, cooking, cleaning - I know I'll be sitting down with my feet propped up surveying the wreckage one week from right now!  But we're not there yet - so let's look at last week's list and see how it went...

1.  Make a weighted blanket (commission job).
Done!  And of course, as usual, I forgot to take a picture before delivering it!  But my customer was very happy with it.  If you are interested in how to make one, there's a tutorial at the tope of this page, right under the header picture.

2.  Make a dolphin pillow cover.
Done!  I absolutely love the way this turned out...

3.   Order supplies for the t-shirt quilts.
Done!  Those should be here in the next few days, all ready to be started on after Christmas!

4.  Make labels for the kids' annual quilts.
Done!  They are sewn on, too!  Hooray!

5.  Quilt the annual quilts.
Done!  I shared Emmy's last Friday, I'll share Lilli's on Wednesday, and Nathanael's this coming Friday.  It sure feels good to have them finished!

6.  Wrap packages.
Not yet - I've set aside Wednesday for this particular project!

7.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.
Done.  This quilt went to a man with terminal COPD...

...and this quilt went to a woman who suffered a lot of injuries in a fall.

This quilt went to a woman just diagnosed with breast cancer...

...and this one went to a woman in the end stages of cancer.

8. Find the joy!!
I'm working on it!

So not a bad week - only a little bit to carry over into this week.  Here's my plan for this week....

1.  Wrap packages!

2.  Quilt some quilts for the ministry. (We are completely out of finished quilts!)

3.  Work with DH and Lilli to make lots of Christmas goodies!

4.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.

5.  Spend lots of quality time with my grandkids!

So that's my list for the week - and now the question is - - - what are YOU working on this week?

Hugs!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Whole Lot of Stuff...

Hi, all!

It's Friday again - are you ready to get your whoop whoop on?  I am - but lots of different things this week, nothing quilty.  So let's see what we're all whooping about this week!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

First up is this…

Labels printed by the yard from Spoonflower!!  We have a new graphic designer at church who fixed up the file we needed to upload to Spoonflower.  A few minutes, a credit card, two weeks to process the order, and we have 180 labels!  Woohoo!

Next up….

I did my taxes - and it's not even March 15th!  That's probably a record for me - I usually wait until the last minute to do my taxes. But we're getting a new roof next week, so it's nice to know where that tax refund will be going….

And saving the best for last…

what do this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

have in common?

They're all Chinese.

And so is the child my daughter and son-in-law are trying to adopt!  It's not definite yet, but if they get approved, they hope to adopt a beautiful little boy who is also profoundly deaf.
He'll be a little brother to Lilli and a big brother to Emmy,
and everyone is very excited!

So can I get a whoop whoop?!?!?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's made you dance the happy dance this week?

Share with us - we want to dance along with you!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight -

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Sarah

PS Remember that signups for this year's Hands2Help Challenge start this Sunday!  I hope you'll be joining this year!!
