Make-A-List Monday - Time for (oh no!) Housework!!

Hi, all!

Is it really almost the middle of September?  How does the time fly so quickly?  My FIL and SIL are coming to visit this week - when they gave us the dates for their visit, it seemed like such a long time away - but now it's here, and you know what that means - dreaded housework!  Oh well.... but first let's see how I did on last week's list...

1.  Make quilts for a mother and son who were in a bad car wreck this past week.

Done!  Both these quilts were delivered today!

2.  Bind the quilt for my FIL.

Done!   I can't wait for him to see the finished quilt!

3.  Finish up the guest room and mini guest room for our upcoming company.

Partly done...  I moved the furniture around in the mini guest room today, but I still need to make the bed up.  I've done some of the work in the main guest room - mainly I just need to get some tools and things moved out of there.

4.  Quilt at least five quilts for Rogersville.

I managed to get six quilts ready for binding...

5. Make three computer sleeves for the craft show.

Well, they're cut out - but that's all....

6.  Make six journal covers for the craft show.

Same here - all cut out and no place to go!

7. Make two first aid kit rollups for the craft show.

Cut but not sewn!

8.  Keep up with ministry needs as they arise.

Done - and the reason why I didn't get to the craft show stuff!  In addition to the mother-and-son quilts in #1 above, I've been working on three other quilts for the ministry.

I also didn't get to some of my list because I had Saturday morning with my sewing sisters - and taught a class in free motion quilting. Getting ready for that took some time!

That's what I got finished last week - not as much as I'd hoped!  And much of this week needs to be devoted to housekeeping (gasp!) so that my in-laws don't run screaming from the house.  So what's on this week's list?

1.  Finish up the guest rooms so they are warm and inviting!

2.  Put away the stacks of stuff that have accumulated around the house.

3.  Clean the house until it shines!

4.  Bind two quilts for the ministry.

5.  Make a back for a ministry quilt.

6.  Quilt and bind a third ministry quilt.  

7.  Keep up with any other ministry needs that arise!

I probably won't have much time to sew this week after my in-laws arrive - it might seem a little anti-social to leave the room to go sew!!  So I'll have to get in my sewing in between cleaning up.  I guess it can be a reward for finishing a task!!

Wow, this has been a full week!  Someone referred to "email overload" in the comments last week, and it was so true!   But it was fun to see all of your comments about your FMQ experience and "oops" moments!  I still have a few emails to answer, but I've tried to keep up each day.  Unfortunately, I haven't had time to check out all of your links, but I hope to get to see them this weekend!  Thanks to all of you regulars who linked up, and welcome to the newbies!  I hope you'll come back and link up this week and in the future!!  And a special thanks to those of you who posted about the giveaway on your blog, and by doing so also spread the word about Christina's new book!

And now for my whoop whoop for the week...

I did a lot of sewing and quilting but this was something a little bit out of my comfort zone and I had so much fun with it!

My daughter wants some floor poufs for the little girls' play area, so I decided to try my hand at one.  This one has piping, a zipper, and a handle for easy carrying!  

I also finished off those two FMQ pieces from last Friday - new pillows!!

And - my friend Piper was at an estate sale today, and texted me a picture of this beautiful old machine....

.....which will be coming to live at my house this weekend!!  I can't wait to run the serial number and find out for sure what model it is and where it was made, but I think it's a 201, made in the late 40's or early 50's.  Woohoo!!

Make-A-List Monday - Quilting Season Begins!

Hi, all!

Labor Day has come and almost gone, and as I saw on someone's Facebook post today, quilting season begins!!  I don't know about you, but I am so ready!!  So many ideas in my head and new fabric in my stash.....

But first I need to take care of business - like last week's to-do list!  Here's how it went....

1.  Help a friend finish a ministry quilt top for a young boy.

Done!  We not only finished the top, I got it quilted too!  This one is going to a 6-year old boy who just got adopted by his foster family!

2.  Make a ministry quilt for a 5-year old boy who just had a heart transplant.

Done!  This top was pieced by Rita (it's a Connecting Threads kit!) and I got it quilted up this week.  It's on its way to a new home!

3.  Make a ministry quilt for a young woman who was in a serious car accident.

Done!  This young woman is doing well - her jaw has been wired shut, but she made it to church on Sunday and we gave her quilt to her then!

4.  Make a quilt for a teenager dealing with brain cancer.

Done!  This quilt is so special - the center Amish star was hand-pieced by a new member of our group many years ago, and she donated it to the ministry when she started coming.  As the recipient is very fond of music, we added a black border with white musical notes on it, an the back is the same fabric and another black musical fabric, this time printed in shades of blue and green.  A patch on the back has a verse from his favorite song, which has become his theme during his battle with cancer.

5.  Finish a quilt started by my MIL to give to my FIL.

Partially done!  I loaded this quilt on the frame yesterday - it's a monster!  96 inches square.  Whew!  And today I finished the quilting.  Tomorrow I'll bind it...

6.  Start prepping the house for a visit by my FIL and SIL.  (This involves moving stuff around since we only have one guest room!)

Started!  I cleaned a lot of stuff out of a room that Lilli had been using for crafts, so the room is nearly ready to have the futon moved into it.  I also hung pictures in the guest room and cleaned out a whole bunch of books and toys to go to Goodwill.

7.  Keep quilting for Rogersville, at least five quilts this week.

I believe I quilted four quilts for Rogersville this week, because of the four quilts I finished for the ministry.  

8.  Get those stars appliqued on the blue field!

On hold for right now....

9.  Keep up with any other ministry needs that arise.

We didn't have any needs come up other than those that were already on the list.  Whew!

It was a busy week!  I actually quilted six quilts in two days - Jolene and I were fast friends those days.  I also did some fun quilting related to the book review I did for my friend Christina - 

and there's still time to read the review and enter the giveaway of her new book, "First Steps To Free-Motion Quilting"!  Just stop by last Friday's Whoop Whoop post and join in the fun.  The linky party is open until Thursday if you want to link up with us - try it, it's fun!  There's lots of impressive inspiration there, too.  Take a look!
