Hi, all!
Do any of you have trouble finding the extra time that scrap quilting takes? I love making scrap quilts, but I'll be the first to admit that it takes a good bit more time to make a scrap quilt than it does to make one from yardage!
I did manage to find some time this week to make a little progress on Lilli's annual quilt, Something Blue. (A big memory quilt commission job is eating up my sewing time!)
As you can see, I've added nine new blocks to the four I made last week. I would have made more but I ran out of the H blocks and need to make more!
I do think this is going to be a beautiful melange of blues - which is exactly what Lilli asked for (ok, she doesn't know the word "melange" but you know what I mean!) Hopefully by next week I'll have enough blocks made to be able to assemble a corner of the quilt!
I'm also thinking about raiding the green scrap bin to make a scrappy quilt for my green-loving grandson - I don't think there's anything that would make him happier than to be able to snuggle up under a totally green quilt!
And now for some inspiration - I found these amazing examples of scrappiness on Instagram this week!
Look at this beautiful scrappy trips quilt! I really love the bold colors in this one.
I know it's hard to see, but those are all pineapple blocks! After making 16 for my Long time Gone quilt, I know how many hours of work went into this quilt - and just imagine how many scraps it eats up!!
And this little quilt is such a great way to use up those small pieces of background neutrals - it makes a great statement!
*&*&*&*&*&*&*
So many scraps, so many quilts, so little time! What are you doing this week to tame your scrap monster?
Hugs!
Sarah
That's coming along so beautifully, so clever.
ReplyDeleteI have another bear to do, and scraps of batiks will fill in his eyes, hands and paws. But it does take time to sort out those scraps.
ReplyDeleteit does take a little more time to make a quilt from scraps doesn't it. You make many more than I do.I have slowed myself down this week as I am getting ready for a trip - I am prepping projects to take with me in the motorhome - it will be time for hand piecing! (scraps of course)
ReplyDeleteGreat progress! I've picked up extra shifts at work this week and am missing my sewing.
ReplyDeleteYour H quilt looks great. And, yes, it is a pain to use scraps rather than start with yardage -- but the finished project is way more interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes I couldn't agree more with you, scrap quilts take a lot of time-unless you are lucky enough to have precut everything. I want to make one so bad lately but just can't take the time right now!
ReplyDeleteScrap quilts can take more time, but the results are worth it. Love the colors you've chosen for this one!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue quilt, I have tons of scraps and would love the make one. Would you share the size of your squares.
ReplyDeleteGood progress! Thanks for sharing the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou do amazing things with your scraps; it is an amazing skill!
ReplyDeleteI've made a quilt from yardage for my in-law parents. I was bored to tears of always sewing the same fabric through out each of the 20 blocks. It was back in 2014 and I'm still not about to do a quilt with the same fabrics through out. Scrappy is so much better. ;^)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Can't wait to see what happens when the rivers are filled in!
ReplyDeleteOoh I do love how Lili’s quilt is coming together! I have never seen a quilt like that before and had no idea where you were going. Is it your own design or a pattern? I’m still waiting to see whether there will be smashing or you’ll just join the blocks as they are?
ReplyDeleteYes! It takes so much longer to use scraps, especially if you are modifying a pattern or making it up as you go along. The first time I made a quilt from yardage, using a pattern, I was gobsmacked at how fast it was. Now that feels like cheating, so I'm back to my old ways :) This week I'm quilting a super scrappy Christmas quilt top that I pieced last year. It's fun to revisit all those different fabric as I quilt over them!
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog. Our grandkids can never have too many quilts, right?
