Hi, all!
Are you enjoying the hop so far? I hope so - I know my creative juices are bubbling over with new ideas!! And today we've got even more goodness on tap! Here are the hop stops for the day....
Monday, July 17th
Karen of Tu-Na Quilts, Travels, and Eats, Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life, and Michele of Crayon Box Quilt Studio have got a great line-up for us today - there are even some kids' crafts in the works! Remember to visit each stop on the hop and leave a comment to be entered into this day's giveaway. If you're new to the hop, you can read more about the giveaway in this post.
And we're up to Day 4 of the tutorial for this quilt. Fortunately, you know exactly what to do at this point - today you will make the third strip set panel, just like you did on Day 2 and Day 3. You can find the directions here.
And while you're working on that, I've got some more Christmas goodies to show you!
A few years ago, when my daughter was working on ways to raise money to bring our Chinese grandson home, she did a Christmas ornament sale. In the course of helping her, I discovered the joy of making origami ornaments. Now, paper isn't my first medium of choice, but there is something very satisfying about taking a flat piece of paper and turning it into something three-dimensional!
This is one of my favorite designs, called a kusudama ball. It looks really complicated, but isn't. If you'll click the name above, it will take you to a tutorial that explains clearly how to make one. Tip: mini clover clips and white glue are your friend here, although small paper clips work well too!
This neat little ornament is made from the pages of old books.
You'd need double-sided paper for this one, but isn't it cute?
And if you really can't bring yourself to work with any medium other than fabric, there's this fabulous folded fabric star! I've made several of these - quick, fairly easy once you get the hang of it, and a great scrap buster!
You can find the original links for the last three pictures on my Pinterest page,
*!*!*!*!*!*!*
I hope you're hanging in there with the quilt-along - one more day of making the strip sets, then we'll move on to something new!
Remember to visit all the stops on the hop and leave a comment to be entered in today's giveaway! See you tomorrow!
Hugs!
Sarah

Ps: I could leave or for that matter read the post from the blogger with house full of estrogen, three girls and a boy. I kept being diverted to pop ups saying I won....... couldn't get around it. Very frustrating.
That should have read : could not read or leave a comment.

I made tons of those fabric stars for gifts to give to all my co-workers last year. They were so much fun to make, almost addicting. And a great way to use up some smaller strips of fabric.
ReplyDeleteBy the way: Crayon Box Quilts had no hop info...or did I miss something? One less entry for the big drawing???

Michele is having some technical issues with her blog this morning - hopefully they will be cleared up soon! But even if we have to add her to a later day in the hop, she'll be sharing with us! Just check back on her blog later today...

ReplyDeleteLoving the ornaments. I may have to do some for gifts during the holidays.
ReplyDeleteMy niece loves origami. . .maybe I can bribe her to make some for me! LOL
ReplyDeleteI remember those fabric stars from last year and never got around to them. Guess I better start a list (and check twice, or maybe three times).
ReplyDeletePat
I'm not much into making anything other than fabric gifts, but I truly love these folded paper ornaments! Maybe I'll give them a whirl!
ReplyDeleteThose are darling ornaments. I haven't had much luck with paper folding. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've made the woven stars and yes, they are easy, once you figure out the rotation. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteI love the kusudama ball. Great ideas for kids today!
ReplyDeleteReally fun blog hop. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the Christmas in July Blog hop! You all are so creative! Thanks for running this.
ReplyDeleteThese are super cute. I've never tried to make anything like that before. I'll keep that one in the back of my mind for now. I know I'll need it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the hop so much again this year! I really appreciate the extra work you put into sharing Christmas goodies. They have provided so much inspiration for those little things that I think I want to do, but never seem to be able to spend the time looking for inspiration. You've done the work for me. Thanks! My strip sets are made and I'm excited for the next step. I've only made one trip around the world quilt (many years ago!), and that was made using two fabrics and large (6") squares. I'm loving the color splashes with this technique. I decided to make mine patriotic - simply because those were the fabrics that had not been put away from as previous project. It was easier to use them than to put them away. :-) Thanks for all YOU do! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteLove the star, gonna use it as a bowl filler, if not too heavy will use as ornaments as well. Great job with the hop Sarah.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Great ornament ideas. Using old books. Hmmm. I wonder if they would have the same look using some old textbooks? I might have to try some of these too. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com
ReplyDeleteLove these paper projects - I see some of these in my future! Love this blog hopping!
ReplyDeleteGreat ornament ideas -- pages of old books definitely piqued my curiousity! I like books, any way I can get 'em!
ReplyDeleteOh, that fabric star is so cute! I have a lot of scraps to use up, so this is a great idea for that! My mother has some angels that my grandmother had made out of Reader's Digests. The book was kept whole and the pages were folded to make the skirt for the angel, and the whole thing was sprayed with gold paint.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that Folded Fabric Star before, but STILL haven't made one. Thanks for the reminder (and the fun Blog Hop, too!!)
ReplyDeleteOh!... That Kusudama Ball is *beautiful*!
ReplyDeleteI have to try that!
*Thank you!*, Sarah, for ALL these great ideas!!
I'm loving every one of them!
Pat T.

I'm so thankful to be able to join in this year's 12 days of Christmas with you. I'm in the middle of binding my middle son's quilt so I'm sure I'll be late in finishing it, but I do look forward to finishing my 1st 12 days quilt top.

ReplyDeleteI was totaly smitten with today's sewn card by Domestic Felicity and the snowman pillow @ Stitchinathome. I will be making both of these.

ReplyDeleteFor your folded fabric star ornaments, did you press them as you made each folded star point? Or I am just not good at this one? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI made quite a few of those fabric star ornaments last year as gifts, and they were well liked!
ReplyDeleteI made some of those ornaments with my kiddos last year. They covered them in a bunch of glitter.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of flowers out of book pages, a fun new idea for me. Thank you!
