I May Have A Scrap Problem... Strumming The Strings!

Hi, all!

Wednesday really snuck up on me this week, and because of that, I haven't done one. single. thing. on my Long Time Gone quilt.   😢   I think I'm mentally intimidated by the only remaining blocks I need to make, which are the foundation pieced pineapple blocks - and I need to get over that quick!!  I really want to put this quilt together and start on Gypsy Wife!

But as I was wondering what I would post on today, I realized - - - I finished a string quilt top today!!!

These blocks were in a large box of string blocks that we had made at church over the past few months.  I took that box with me on our road trip to Arkansas, spending hours pulling the papers off the back of the blocks.  Wednesday night at church, I spent a little time playing with them on the design wall, and discovered that I love this on-point design!

I love the squares created by the center white strips on each string block, and also the subtle diamond design that shows up in the background.

I used up the last of my Denyse Schmidt squiggly plaid for the setting triangles and corners, and I love the way it sets off the string blocks!  

So, no progress on LTG, but a new scrappy quilt top for the quilt ministry!  I'm hoping to load this one on the quilt frame tomorrow night at church so it will be completed and ready to go to bring comfort to someone in need.  Because that's what quilts are for, right?

Make-A-List Monday - Back In The Saddle Again...

Hi, all!

It's so nice when life gets back to a normal routine!  I love the Hands2Help Challenge, but it sure does change what I work on - and it's fun to get back to quilting, I must say!  I've got a list a mile long of things I want to work on...

First of all, though, let's look at last week's list and how it went...

1.  Mail the last of the H2H packages.
Done!  My littles went with me to the post office and were amazingly patient while we took care of all the Canadian packages.  Thank heaven for the traveling library, all loaded up with kids books they hadn't seen yet!

2.  Start working on a Hipster Cat quilt for my eye doctor's office.
Done, and not just working on it - the quilt is finished!  I can't wait to get this one hung up sometime tomorrow...

I used a pretty lime green Glide thread to do straight line quilting on this one, an inch between stitching lies.

And here it is, in all its glory!  I'm particularly proud of the fact that it is COMPLETELY finished - there is a hanging sleeve AND a label on the back!

3.  Keep working on the Long Time Gone quilt.
As I shared last Wednesday, I got a little bit done on this...

4.  Work on the 12 Days of Christmas In July quilt-along quilt!
I didn't get to this one - I would have worked on it this afternoon, but Lilli was sewing with me and I didn't want to make her move off my cutting board.  You'll see below what I worked on instead!

5.  Meet with a customer about a new t-shirt quilt commission.
Done!  All the supplies are ordered and I'm ready to start as soon as they arrive....

6.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.

Done!  This quilt went to a gentleman undergoing lung surgery this week...

...and this quilt went to a woman just diagnosed with ALS.

And today, while I couldn't get to my cutting table, I started assembling this quilt top, made using string blocks we've made at church.  This was a fun exercise, very low stress, as the blocks are totally random and there are no seams to match.

So a good week all in all!  I spent a lot of time with the grandkids last week (you can see pics from "Nana Camp" on last Friday's blogpost) so I was happy to get as much done as I did!  Here's what's on tap for this week.....

1.  Hang up the Hipster Cat quilt in my doctor's office.

2.  Work on the new t-shirt quilt commission job.

3.  Start the pineapple blocks for the Long Time Gone quilt.

4.  Work on the quilt for the 12 Days of Christmas in July quilt-along!

5.  Quilt two quilts for Hands2Help.

6.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.

So that's my week ahead!  Enough to keep me out of trouble, but also allowing for some fun time.

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Nana Camp!

Hi, all!

Friday has come back around once more - and you know what that means! It's time to get our whoop whoop on!  Are you ready?  Let's get started!

Our church hosted Summer Jam this week (our version of Vacation Bible School) and Lilli attended as usual, which meant that I had the littles for Nana Camp!  It was a very fast week, with not much sewing and a whole lot of driving, but we had some fun times...

Every morning started off with breakfast, and I learned a little trick!  This is apparently the best way to clean off "donut fingers" - put all of them in your mouth at once!

The kiddos spent some quality time designing shapes with these shape tiles - good practice for designing quilts later!

Of course, there was some relaxing time... 

...mixed in with some calisthenics!

And when you're at Nana's, of course you sew!!  They had a ball today making their very own "quilts", then cutting them up into smaller pieces.  I didn't have the heart to tell them they had the process all backwards.... 😊

We took some walks in the yard, too, and found this really awesome moth waiting for its wings to dry!

This guy was about two and a half inches long - just huge!  And a bright, bright orange and gray. So pretty!!

And I did get a little bit of not-quite-sewing in during my off times (few and far between this week) as I cut out the pieces for the Hipster Cat quilt!  I am really loving this!  Hopefully I'll have time to get it fused onto the backing tomorrow.  This guy is really cool!

So - - - can I get a whoop whoop??
