Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? There's No Place Like Home....

 Hi, all!

It's Friday again, and we all know what that means - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!!!  I've had a non-sewing week, but I've still got plenty to share, and I hope you do too - so let's get started!

As you may remember from last week's posts, my husband and I took our oldest granddaughter Lilli to New York City for a few days this week in early celebration of her 14th birthday!  We've been planning this for months, and Lilli had quite an agenda sketched out for us - and I have some pictures to share from our excursions....

We arrived in NYC on Sunday and after wandering around a bit to show Lilli Times Square, we got tickets to Phantom of the Opera to start our week off right.  Phantom was only the first show we saw, though - we also saw Hadestown and Wicked later on in the week!

Monday we hopped on the ferry bright and early and went to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  It was the first time Bill and I had seen the statue up close and personal and it was amazing!  I'm especially proud of this photo...

Monday afternoon we also went to the 9/11 Museum.  If you are ever in NYC, this is a must-see.  While we took many pictures inside (this trip was a bit of a home-school assignment for Lilli as well as a fun trip), this is one of my favorites....

And even though we were totally exhausted from all the day's walking, we had to walk over to Rockefeller Center, where they were already starting to put up Christmas decorations....

...and visit Magnolia Bakery for some of their absolutely fabulous banana pudding!!!  Pardon the picture - Lilli is at the age where she really doesn't like to have her picture taken, but she was very willing to share her banana pudding vicariously with you!

Tuesday we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (after an unintended extended ramble through The Ramble, part of Central Park - my husband made us turn a little bit too early for the direct route from the subway across the park to the Met!)  And of course, I found lots of quilt inspiration!  Isn't this amazing?

Wednesday was our day for the American Museum of Natural History!  So many amazing things to see there, but this was my favorite...

We were so excited to see the giant sperm whale, but when we got to the place where he was displayed, we found it blocked off.  We could see the whale from the landing where we stood, but couldn't go into the hall itself.  And look - the whale has a bandaid on his fin!

It turns out they were holding a COVID vaccine clinic in the room, and the whale was "participating" in the drive!  This just made my heart sing, and took the sting out of not being able to enter and wander around the exhibit.  

We had so much fun!  I think this was our best trip ever!  But as they say, there's no place like home, and it's good to be back!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? I'm Still Alive...

Hi, all!

Well, it's Friday again, and of course that means it's time to get our whoop whoop on!  It's been a weird two weeks for me - I haven't touched my sewing machine the whole time, between Christmas, going to NYC, having a wicked cold, and then, for the past three days, being on Nana duty 24/7!

It's always fun having the kids, but I'll tell you, I have a whole new appreciation for my daughter's abilities as a mom!  

I have the littles because these three are at Universal Studios visiting Harry Potter World for Lilli's 10th birthday!

(I am so jealous...)

It's really cold here, so we've been spending a lot of time watching movies (in between running around the house like loony birds) but I thought I'd share a quiet moment with you.  It was hard to capture one on camera, but I succeeded - whoop whoop!!

And we had a lovely few days in NYC - I even got to see the Empire State Building lit up for the holidays!  It was so cold while we were there, I only caught this picture while we were on the way to look at the tree at Rockefeller Center, but I'm glad I did!  

And here it is!  I've seen it now, in person, and I can return to coming to NYC in warmer weather.  It turns out I still do have orange juice for blood - a long-standing joke because I grew up in Miami, FL.  I've learned to tolerate cold weather a little better - I don't put on a coat at 60 degrees any more - but really cold weather is not my favorite!

So once again, I don't have a finish for the week, but I am doing a little whooping - I've survived (at least so far) 24/7 Nana duty, I got to enjoy NYC before the "bomb cyclone" hit, I finally saw Hamilton (which was AMAZING!) so it's been a really great week!

Make-A-List Monday - Taking a Break!

Hi, all!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas - I'm sitting here in a food coma, feeling  highly unmotivated to do much of anything!  Santa was very, very good to everyone at our house, and we've finally finished all the festivities for the weekend.  

And Wednesday morning, my husband and I are headed to . . . New York City to see HAMILTON!!!  I'm so excited, but there is so much to do tomorrow before we are ready to leave, so I'm going to take a break from Make-A-List this week and just work on enjoying my weekend in the big city!

I promise to take lots of pictures, which will probably show up on Instagram - you can find me there at @fabricaddictquilts.  I do hope you'll peek in occasionally!  I'm so excited about seeing all the decorations for Christmas and maybe even some snow!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Dreaming of New Projects...

Hi, all!

It's Friday again, and we all know what that means - - - it's time to get our whoop whoop on!  I hope you've all had whoop-worthy weeks - mine hasn't had much sewing, but it's been fun nonetheless.  And I do have some pretty fabric to show off!  So let's get started!

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, I'm sure you know that I spent last weekend plus a few days in New York City!  Oh, we had such a fine time!  The weather was just gorgeous...

...clear and sunny and pretty comfortable temperature-wise most of the time we were there.  It made for really great pictures!

I particularly love this one of the Flatiron Building - I had never seen it from that particular angle, and it looks so thin there!

I was really glad that I had a day to wander around the Garment District, too!  I love the iconic needle-and-button statue that lets you know that you have arrived in the Garment District - one of my favorite sights in NYC!

I visited some really great trim shops in NYC - buttons, trims, zippers, ribbons - everything you could possibly imagine can be found in these amazing stores!  

But the best part of my day exploring came when I got to meet this lovely lady in real life for lunch!  Chris blogs over at Made by ChrissieD, and lives in the NYC area.  FYI, she travels all over the world and blogs about the fabric stores she find on her journeys.  It's a great resource if you like to travel - her photography is fabulous, as you'll see if you wander around her blog.  She sent me a great walking itinerary to follow when I was wandering around the garment district, and arranged for us to meet for lunch at a cute little restaurant.  Then we wandered down to.....

...Purl Soho, which is such a fun shop, although much smaller than you would think from their website!  Lots of beautiful yarns, Liberty of London fabric, and some of the prettiest linens I've seen in a long time.  I did end up with a scrap bag with an interesting mix of pieces...

...and a bolt end of this beautiful linen!  It's hard to tell from this picture, but the warp is a light teal blue and the woof is a beautiful bright yellow.  In person, it's a beautiful shade of blue-ish green.  Unfortunately, it's hard to tell in this picture!

I also picked up the bundle of solid fabrics in this picture...

...then returned to The City Quilter for the owls and foxes, which I had seen there earlier in the day.  These fabrics are destined to become a baby quilt for one of my nieces!

And Thursday I got to spend the day with these lovelies -  grandkids are the best!!  We had a big old time wandering around Target and re-stocking Nana's pantry shelves.  

So that's what's been going on in my little corner of the world this week - can I get a whoop whoop??

Make-A-List Monday - Not Much Sewing Going On!

Hi, all!

This week, Make-A-List Monday is going to take a brief hiatus, because I'm currently enjoying a New York experience!  

We arrived on Saturday and found our hotel, which looks out over Times Square - it's in the heart of the theater district, with multiple shows on either side of the block it presides over and Schubert Alley right across the street!  

We've already been to see Wicked and Les Miserables; tonight's show is Something Rotten.  Can you tell we like Broadway musicals?

We also went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art today - there was an amazing exhibition of clothing throughout the modern age, talking about the hand vs. machine construction.  Here's a few of the more interesting things we saw...

Yo-yos!  Who knew they could be used for clothing?

And if you run out of fabric, just grab some drink straws!

Yes, they are really made from plastic drink straws!!

And look at that black and white - makes me want to run to my sewing machine!!

Tomorrow I'll be hitting up the fabric stores while my husband is working - pictures of that later this week!

I'll review last week's list and get back on track next Monday - but for now I'm going to play!
