Make-A-List Monday - Show Me The Mini!!

Hi, all!

I'm so excited - I can't wait to see who else made a mini this week! I had a lot of fun making mine, and it's already hanging up in my studio.

I started with sixteen denim 5"squares from the scrap bin.

 Then I whacked and re-assembled...

...turned it once, whacked and re-assembled again!

Then I whacked it again and added some strips of 1.5" square scraps sewn together, and ended up with this!  I love seeing the sun shining through it.

But I wasn't done there - I decided since I live in the Nashville area, there needed to be some bling to go with those denim blues.  A container of the kids' craft items yielded some silver beads and I stitched them on.

And here's my finished mini!

I particularly like this little motif I found in a box while I was looking for embellishments!  Since this won't be washed I figured it would be ok to add it on.

I found a pretty linen stripe for the binding...

...and these cute little gray hedgehogs for the back!

And now it hangs on the wall just inside the entrance to my studio! I have another large quilt to hang in the big empty space, I just haven't found the hanging rod yet.  Maybe tomorrow!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

So now, I want to see what you've created!  Did you have a chance to make a mini this week?  Or maybe you've made one in the past that you love and you'd like to share.  (It can even be from an old blogpost or Instagram post!)  Whatever it is, "Show Me The Mini"!!

Hugs!

Make-A-LIst Monday - How About a Virtual Sewing Meet-Up?

Hi, all!

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get use to our new normal these days.  I've learned to grocery shop just one day a week instead of making three or four trips.  I'm enjoying taking walks on sunny days, and my dog loves going for walks!  I've even started doing jigsaw puzzles on the dining room while I eat breakfast and lunch. Thankfully, my daughter has a bunch of really good ones that I've been borrowing!

But I r-e-a-l-l-y miss sewing with my peeps!  It just doesn't seem right to not get together with a group of friends and sit around chatting while we sew.

So today when I got an email from the Modern Quilt Guild, I noticed the picture above, an advertisement for an on-line class, and got to thinking...

I love my wall of quilt minis - some made by me, some made by blog friends...

...some I even picked up before I became a quilter!  Others were made....

...with the leftovers from full size quilts, like the one in the bottom of this picture.  This is actually the first place I've had it hanging on the wall, and I never really noticed how "optical" it is before!  I am loving this one more and more every day.

So - here's my idea!  Why don't we have a "virtual" sewing meet-up, and each make a fun mini this week?  Then next Monday I'll have a link-up on here so we can each share our mini!

Your mini might be a mug rug, or a pin cushion, a post card or a wall hanging - the sky's the limit!  Square, round, octagonal, free form - branch out, try something new and different.  Use a color you don't normally use, or a technique.  Add mixed media, make it three dimensional, just have fun with it!  Size is completely up to you.  Let's see what we can create as a memento of our 2020 Coronavirus Quarantine!

Are you game?  I hope so!

Hugs!

Sarah

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Supersmall Supernova...

Hi, all!

Friday has rolled around again and it's a special one - it's time for QuiltCon!  I'm spending my weekend there, meeting friends and taking classes and looking at beautiful quilts, but I still want to do some whooping with you all - so let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

A couple of weeks ago I completed a full size Supernova quilt for my youngest grandkids' interpreter.  In one of the comments, Joy of The Joyful Quilter said that she wanted to make one in miniature.  Now that sounded like a great idea!  And I had a whole mess of tiny bonus HSTs left over from Nathanael's green annual quilt that I made for Christmas...

Of course, it might have helped if I had remembered I needed 100 HSTs and not 100 pairs!  But I have a whole other set of HSTs all trimmed and ready to make another one if I ever want to!

I don't generally make mini quilts, and this is why - it took almost as long to put this small version together as it did to make the full size one!

I did the same straight line quilting radiating out from the center that I do on the large quilt.  I think I like it even better in miniature!

I used a narrower binding than usual on this quilt, and actually stitched it down on the back by hand!  I really do like Clover clips for holding the binding inlace when I do it by hand.  Much easier!

And here's the finished version!  It measures about 13.5" square, and the HSTs finished out at about 1 1/4" each.

Isn't it pretty?  I can't imagine making one from scratch in this size, but it's a great way to use up bonus HSTs from other projects.

One last picture just for fun!

So - - - can I get a whoop whoop?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping it up this week?

What's making you do a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until midnight Sunday.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!
