Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? New Year, New Project!

Hi, all!

Well, it's been a hot minute, hasn't it?  But the holidays are over and there are no more excuses - and it's Friday, so that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  Let's go!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

This week I was supposed to be working on cleaning up my studio, and making frankenbatting.  I did make a prodigious amount of frankenbatting....

...which I still need to roll up on the batting bar under my quilt frame.  I believe there's enough to make about fourteen 60" square quilts (my go-to size) so that should keep me busy for a while!  I still have more batting to give the Frankenstein treatment, but I think I'm just going to fold it neatly and put it back on the shelf for a while - I have other things I need to start working on!

And in between the cleaning and frankenbatting, I continued working on an old UFO I inherited from a friend who moved to Florida and gave up quilting.  She gave me all her supplies, including a Moda Color Cuts kit from 2018 containing fabric and instructions for a large sampler quilt.  She had made a couple of blocks, but the bulk of them remained to be done.  I started it four weeks ago, and was doing good to finish a block or two a day....

...but a week ago, I had most of the large blocks done.  This is the first fifteen blocks, and my design wall was full.

A few more days, and I had made my way through most of the medium sized blocks.  And today, I bulled my way through the six inch blocks, and by lunchtime, I was able to lay out the completed blocks in a trial layout!

This is still lacking the filler bits but I was dying to see what it would look like, if only in a vague sense!  Thursday afternoon I worked on making some of those filler pieces and I have assembled three of the sections.  A bit of work tomorrow and I should be able to have all the sections assembled - not a bad way to start the new year!

So - - - can I get a whoop whoop?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping it up this week?

What's making you do a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Sarah

  1. The quilt blocks are lovely, the colors are so pretty! There is something wrong with linky. I have the same problem on another blog with this older type of link.

  2. That Moda quilt will be stunning! The colors work so well together, and the block designs are terrific. I can't really do much to reorganize my sewing room yet, but I am working through UFOs. I am planning to use only vintage or antique machines this year, as well as finish at least one hand quilting project. It felt wonderful to quilt and bind a top I finished in December. It's hard to stop looking online at what others are doing; it's inspiring, but I need inspiration to stop looking and start doing!

  8. I love the soft colors of your inherited UFO. I'm not usually drawn to sampler styles quilts, but the coordinated colors and varying sizes of the blocks are really pulling me in. Have fun finishing it.
