Make-A-List Monday - Where Did My Week Go?

Hi, all!

Honestly - where did the week go?  I took a look at my list from last week this morning and realized there was no way I was going to make any inroads on it.  So let's take a look at last week's progress...

1.  Cut out blocks from a big stack of clothing for three memory quilts.
Done!  Almost 600 5" squares from twelve different pieces of clothing, plus blocks from TN Titans fabric and some St Louis Cardinals logos.

2.  Start assembling at least two of those memory quilts.
Done!  I've managed to assemble two of the quilt tops, and I'm halfway through the third!

3.  Pick out backing fabric for the memory quilts.
Done!  I lucked out at Hobby Lobby and found not one, but two great prints that they had enough of, so I bought both.  My customer liked the one I liked less, so now I have a great backing fabric in my stash!

4.  Work out a design using the scrappy "made fabric" for the guest room bunk bed.
I haven't even had time to think about this one!

5.  Work on cleaning up from the home renovation projects (so I can start a new one without guilt!)
I did a little bit on this today, but not much.  And I discovered that Command Hooks won't hold up hanging rods for wall quilts... (bummer...)

6.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.
Done!  We give away three quilts this week...

This quilt went to a woman who has become disabled with various medical conditions...

...and this quilt went to a young girl in need of some encouragement.

Finally, this quilt went to a man recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

I feel like all I did last week was work on the three memory quilts and didn't get much else done - but I need to get them finished ASAP, so I guess that's ok.  However, I did spend a fun morning with Lilli making cookies...

...so I did get to do some other things!  This week, though, I'm concentrating on finishing those three quilts - here's my list for the week...

1.  Finish piecing the third memory quilt top.

2.  Make the quilt backs.

3.  Quilt all three memory quilts.

4.   Applique pockets on all three quilts.

5.  Work on a design for the bunk bed quilt.

6.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.

Looks like "second verse, same as the first", doesn't it?  But this is all top priority for me this week.  However, tomorrow (Election Day) I'm going to take care of my grandkids so my daughter can go vote, and then we're all going to go see The Nutcracker and The Four Realms together to celebrate!

And now that I've brought up voting, if you haven't voted yet, I would encourage you to step away from the computer and go do it! This election is so important - we are going to define to the world what we stand for as a country - and everyone should exercise their right to vote.  After all...

... an awful lot of people worked and struggled and sacrificed and bled to make sure we all have the right to vote in this country - the least we can do is go vote!

So now, the question is - - - what are you doing this week?

Hugs!

Sarah

  1. This week is for me, also, “Second verse, same as the first”! I started making things to reduce some of my excess fabric that doesn’t fit on my shelves, drawers or shoeboxes but is in huge Rubbermaid bins lin8ng the perimeter of my sewing room just a step away from being classified as “Hoarding” ! Lol! My friends gave me a cute cloth panel that shows an old Victorian house (coincidence that I live in an old Victorian house? ) with a sign in the yard that says “Home For Wayward Fabric”!!
Now, I don’t have a sign in my yard like that, however, these same friends are the kind who buy fabric for each project specifically and then used to toss away the leftovers when they finished their project (only to but all new fabric for their next project!! ) They knew that I am always making “Scrappy” things so they decided to gift their leftovers to me! I’ve also been the one that people think of when auntie or mum passes away and has all that stash left! I don’t think I’ve bought fabric in years!
So I’ve been finding ways to “ de-stash” and bring in a few dollars at the same time! Because I’ve deliberately used a lower price point, since the money is just a secondary perk, I’ve sold over 30 Scrappy Bags, 24 flannel Softie(Kleenex substitutes) and most recently in the past 2 weeks, 41 sets of Microwave Soup Cozies! We have a website hubby designed- HandmadeinOldeTowne.com and it’s been a fun way to destash! Strange thing is that even after SO many things being made and sold, my stash doesn’t seem to have decreased!! How is that possible!!
I love seeing the way you are using your scraps to make your world a more beautiful place! It’s a great feeling to create something out of “leftovers” that becomes a treasure to the recipient!
Thanks for the inspiration/motivation you give!

  2. I'm finally back to quilting the many quilt tops that have 'so quickly' appeared :)! Somehow though a scrap basket of 1.5 strips has intruded and so, Log Cabin Blocks are also in the making! Always enjoy your blog posts, and am always amazed at your work ethics. The cookies look delicious!

  4. I use Hang It Dang It rods to hang my quilts. They come in three adjustable sizes and use only one nail. Maybe they would work for you.

  5. how you get everything done that you do is beyond me - people tell me I do not sit still and busy all the time but you surpass me by leaps and bounds

  6. I have been successful using large Command Hooks to hang wall quilts on a rod. I use the ones rated for heavier weight. A couple of times I have had to replace one maybe because the wall paint was slick so I made sure the area for the adhesive was not slick.

  8. I was excited to see 2 beautiful photos on your blog. Princess Lilli and the stripped diamond quilt made by my friend Melinda of Quiltin in Wilton. The quilting really brings it to life.

  9. More knitting and sewing will fill my week. And going to vote as soon as I get ready. Wish we could impart the importance of voting to the younger generation!
