Make-A-List Monday - Time For Fun!!

Hi, all!

Monday again, and winter has finally arrived in Middle Tennessee.  Saturday it was 70 degrees - - - and right now it is 30 and sleeting! They say if you don't like the weather, just stick around for a few minutes - - and I think they're right!  But it does make it easy to stay inside...

First, let's see how I did on last week's list...

1.  Finish that wall hanging!
Done - or close enough for government work!
I still need to hand stitch the binding down but I can do that first thing tomorrow morning...

2.  Make at least four blocks for a Scrappy Trips
king-sized quilt.
Done!  These four are finished and I've got a bunch of strips cut to make more...

3.  Make the messenger bag.
Didn't get to this one.... again.....

4.  Work on the knitting project.
It's coming along - but doesn't look a whole lot different
than last week...

5.  Work on any ministry needs that come up.
Done!  I finished two quilts last week for the ministry...

This week, my daughter and her family are on vacation, so I don't have the girls - which means quilting time!!!  I've got an ambitious list for the week...

1.  Quilt and bind two ministry quilts.

2.  Finish the binding on the wall hanging.

3.  Make a baby quilt (commission job!)

4.  Make that messenger bag!

5.  Quilt my "Orange You Glad" quilt.

6.  Make more scrappy trips blocks.

7.  Work on any ministry needs that come up.

I spent Sunday afternoon making quilt backs and binding so I am ready to get going on all of these projects this week.  And if the weather cooperates - it's sleeting outside right now and may continue with sleet/freezing rain/snow overnight - I will be more than happy to stay at home all day tomorrow in my jammies and work on these projects!

So now the question is - - - what are you working on this week?

Hugs!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Keeping Resolutions...

Hi, all!

Here it is, Friday again!  Can you believe how quickly the week has flown?  We are having a sleepover tonight - both granddaughters, so that my daughter and her husband can get an uninterrupted night's sleep for the first time in forever.  Wish me luck that I get at least some sleep!

I don't have any big whoop whoops this week - just a few little ones...

First off, and I guess this is kind of a big whoop whoop after all, these three upholstered pieces represent the END of that upholstery project that's been hanging around for way too long!  My friend is certainly grateful it's done now - hubby will deliver these last pieces on Saturday.

This is my friend Cindy, wearing the scarf I made this Christmas for our "Dirty Santa" gift swap - didn't it turn out cute?

And these are the first two blocks I've made in the Scrappy Trips-along - which will be put into the king-size quilt for my own bed that I've resolved to make this year!  I thought it was pretty bad that I didn't have a handmade quilt for my own bed - and this will put a big chunk in my scrap bin, I hope!

I've also been whooping over some great donations we've received for the quilt ministry - you can read more about them on this blog post.

And I'm whooping about this block.....

...the first of many, I hope!  I want to make a commemorative quilt to hang in our church in honor of all of the people who have worked with our quilt ministry - who have made quilts, cut fabric, donated fabric, blocks, UFOs, flimsies, and finished quilts, or participated in any way.  I am asking for folks to send in "hand" blocks - pieced, drawn, embroidered, appliqued, however you want to make it - to add to this quilt.  The block should also have your name and location on it.  You can read more about the project by clicking on the tab at the top of this page, or the button on the right sidebar.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*

So that's what I'm whooping about this week!

What have you been working on?

Share - we want to see and cheer you on!!

Remember - it doesn't have to be a finish -

Just whatever's making you happy this week!

The party will end Sunday at midnight....

Be there or be square!!

Hugs!

What's Cookin' at the Sweatshop? First Quilts Of The New Year...

Hi, all!

Welcome to The Sweatshop!  After a brief hiatus over the Christmas holidays, it looks like requests for quilts are starting to come in again - but fortunately, so are donations!  I'm going to share a little bit of both this week - let's start with the quilts we've given out since last week.

This quilt was pieced by Debora and was given to a gentleman who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the lung, liver, brain and adrenal gland.

This quilt is going to a 19-month old boy who will be undergoing brain surgery next week.

And this quilt is for a new baby of a soldier who is being deployed to Afghanistan.

We've received a lot of donations this week, too!  Take a look at all the beautiful things that have been sent to help us give out quilt-y hugs...

From Sharon V.
From Carol C.
From Deb A.

Left anonymously at church!
*&*&*&*&*&*&*

A while back, I mentioned on the blog that we would soon be giving away our 500th quilt, and that I wanted to make a quilt to hang at church to commemorate all the people who have helped with the ministry so far - the ladies at church who work with the quilt ministry, and all of the people who have donated fabric, blocks, UFOs, flimsies and finished quilts from all over the world. My idea was to have each person make a "hand" block to represent their helping hand in the ministry and send it in to be put into the commemorative quilt.  Well, the first block arrived this week!  Look at this beauty, made by Terri!

The colors in this are beautiful, and she wrote her name, location and blog name on the fingers of the hand.  I hope each and every one of you who have helped with this ministry will join in and prepare a block!  Your block can be pieced, appliqued, embroidered, or even drawn, in whatever colors you choose to use - however you want to represent a hand on your block will be wonderful, and a wide variety will certainly represent the wide variety of quilters who help with the ministry!!

Thanks, Terri, for starting us off so well!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Many thanks to all of you who help us with our ministry, whether by making quilts, sending donations, or keeping us and the people we make quilts for in your prayers.  It is all greatly appreciated, and we couldn't do this without you!

Hugs!

Sarah

PS - my friend Pam is having a giveaway on her blog - a great new book!  And if she hits 50 followers, she'll sweeten the prize pot.  Head over here to check it out!!
