I May Have A Scrap Problem... May Results and June Goals!

Hi, all!

June has finally arrived, with all the busy summer activities that keep us from sewing as much as we'd like, it seems!  But there's always time for scrap sewing, isn't there?  I'll have to admit that I didn't finish my May project - I've made it to the flimsy stage...

...but haven't been able to put enough time together to get it on the frame for quilting.  Hopefully before the end of June - I'm still considering this one of my scrappy goals for the month!

And today I drew my goal for the month of June....

I don't know when I'll have time to do this, but I'm going to try!  Just for reference, THIS is Tub B...

...2,280 cubic inches packed tight and full of ancient scraps!  It should be interesting to see what's actually in this tub!  Old scrap tubs are treasure trove of goodness, and this one may fit in with the Jurassic World hype as I think it will be quite the excavation!

And while I haven't had much time to do scrap sewing at home, I did get to some at church.  We've been making scrappy jelly roll kits by taking our yardage fabrics, which we store folded on shelves by color, and cutting one strip from each of forty-two fabrics to create a kit.  I made a couple of kits the other day using the white-based low volume fabrics, and sewed one up...

I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I like it!  It's kind of soft and subtle, and there's plenty of flowers to make it sweet and feminine.  Aren't jelly roll race quilts wonderful?

And today I decided to try my hand at scrappy bento boxes (since our string hamper is absolutely overflowing!).  I started with a five inch square for the center, then just went around and around it sewing on strings until the whole thing was about 18" square.  Then I quartered the piece and trimmed all four blocks to 8.5" square.  I managed to do two pieces like that, and rearranged the blocks as shown above.  I think I'll like it more when I get more blocks made, but I think I like it - and it's definitely scrappy!!

So that's what I've been doing with my scraps - want to share what you've been doing?  Link up below and show us your pretties!

Hugs!

Make-A-List Monday - Summer's In Full Swing!

Hi, all!

Well, it was an busy week last week, as I expected, and this week promises to be even busier!  I thought summer was supposed to be relaxing!  But it's a great time for family and fun so we'll just go with the flow.  Here's how last week's list went...

1.  Mail out the Hands2Help prizes!  This is the most important thing I have to do this week - because next week is Vacation Bible School and there won't be time!
I spent a LOT of time at the post office last week, and managed to get everything off except for the international packages.  My plan is for Lilli and I to take those Tuesday afternoon while the littles are at therapy.

2.  Finish quilting the "secret" quilt.
Done! I'll show full pictures as soon as I can, but for now, here's my proof that I finished it.

3. Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.
Done!  We gave away one quilt this week...

This quilt went to a elderly gentleman diagnosed with prostate cancer.

So I almost finished everything on my list last week - just ten more packages to get in the mail and I'll be done.  This week, the grandkids are at my church for vacation Bible school, so there won't be much personal quilting time (although I'll be spending each morning in the quilt room while they are otherwise occupied!)  Here's my hope-to-do list for this week...

1.  Get the last H2H packages in the mail.

2.  Pick out some handwork projects for vacation.

3.  Try to quilt the turtle quilt (already on the frame).

4.  Keep up with any quilt ministry needs that come up.

Between this list and vacation Bible school, I should be able to keep out of trouble, yes?  I just have to share this with you - a comment from Louise, one of my readers...

I know when you are idle, you roam the town with your gang of church quilters, making the locals nervous.  I can just see y'all whipping out your seam rippers and spontaneously recreating the Sharks vs. Jets rumble scene from West Side Story....

LOL!  It's not anything that exciting, but now I want to give that a try!

So now I'll just ask you - - - what are YOU working on this week?

Hugs!

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Little Bit of This and That...

Hi, all!

Here we are at Friday again, and you know what that means - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!!!  It's been a busy week here, and while I don't have a quilt-y finish, I do have some achievements to whoop about, so let's get started.....

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

First of all, Hands2Help 2018 is a wrap!  And I'm really whooping about this year's results - 416 quilts made by 150 quilters are now bringing joy to lives all over the world!  The picture below is of the wonderful folks at Little Lambs Foundation for Kids, showing just some of the quilts that they received as part of Hands2Help.

And while Hands2Help 2018 is a wrap for all of the quilters, I've still got the task of getting all of the thank-you gifts out in the mail. I managed to finish packaging and addressing all of the packages today, so tomorrow the last two bags of goodies will go to the post office.

I also got to meet a blog/Instagram friend in real life - Susan N. stopped by the quilt room at church for a look-around, and I managed to squeeze in a little scrap management as I sent her home with a big bag full of red and blue scraps for the quilts she makes for Quilts of Valor.

I managed to squeeze in some time for quilting, too - this picture was taken as I finished the diagonal lines in one direction, but I've also almost completed the cross-hatch lines now.

I managed to score batting for church on a great sale with an additional discount, and had some really fun help getting it up to the quilt room - never tell this girl she's not big enough to do something!

And last, but definitely not least, I think I figured a work-around for the problem everyone seems to be having with Blogger - that one where you don't get comments mailed to your inbox?  If you leave a comment on your own post, and click the "notify me of follow-up comments" box, it will start sending you emails of all the subsequent comments on that post.  It's still a pain in the neck, but it's better than nothing!

So that was my week - very full with a bunch of unusual things to cheer about - but still whoop-worthy!

Can I get a whoop whoop?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping it up this week?

What's making you do a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!
