Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Purpose for Some Long-Loved Fabric....

Hi, all!

Well, Friday has rolled around once again, and we all know what that means - - - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  Let's get started....

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

I have to admit, as I write this, that I'm not feeling much to whoop about right now.  I live in Tennessee, and if you've been following the news, you know that our state legislature has done some pretty reprehensible things today in the wake of the mass shooting two weeks ago in a Nashville private school.  So that's been affecting my mood today pretty badly.

But - - - as I was working in my studio today, pressing fat quarters to go into my new storage system, I came across a bundle of fat quarters I've had for almost as long as I've been quilting - about fourteen years now!

Please excuse the spotty ironing board cover!

I bought this fabric, Far Far Away by Heather Ross, because I loved the prints and thought I'd use it for my eldest granddaughter, Lilli.  But she turned out to be more of a Dr. Seuss kind of kid, and this beautiful fabric, printed on linen, sat in my stash.  Every so often I'd pull it out and pet it, trying to think of what to use it for.  I mean, look at this Rapunzel...

.... and this Sleeping Beauty....

...and the Owl and the Pussycat!

So stinking cute - but I didn't have any project I deemed worthy to cut into it for.  But now my son-in-law's cousin, who I have known since she was knee high to a grasshopper, is having her first baby, and shared this picture of the sheets for her baby's nursery...

And I realized, as I was sorting through those fat quarters today, that they would be perfect!!!  The new mom agreed, so now I just have to come up with the perfect design to showcase these beautiful fabrics.  I bet I can use up some of the scraps of vintage Irish linen I have, too.  We shall see!

So - - - can I get a whoop whoop?

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's got you whooping up this week?

What's making you do a little happy dance?

Share!  We want to dance right along with you,

And it's always more fun to dance with friends!

The party will stay open until Sunday midnight.

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Make-A-List Monday - Is It Spring Yet?

 Hi, all!

Ooh, I have been a bad, bad blogger!  I just realized I haven't done a Monday post since March 13th..... oops!  Time really flies when you're busy/having fun/avoiding doing taxes.  But I took care of one of those problems today - I did my taxes!  So now I can do whatever I want and not feel guilty.  Hooray!

First, though, let's look at that long overdue to-do list from March 13th...

1.  Prep work for H2H 2023.

Done!  We now have guest bloggers for the next eight weeks!  Many thanks to those of you who stepped up - you really make my task so much easier!

2.  Borders and backs for ministry quilts.

It seems like this is an ongoing, never-ending task, but I did a bunch of them and still have more to work on.

3.  Then, maybe, more fabric organizing!

I'm still working on cleaning up the oddball pieces - those that need more attention than just cutting straight strips.

4.  Handwork for vacation.

I got my handwork all prepped, and I am proud to say that thanks to long car rides, I have a finished top!!

And I even got in a little sashiko stitching, too!

We had a great time on vacation, even though it got cut short by a death in my son-in-law's family that we had to return home early for.  The view off our back deck was amazing...

...and we spent many hours out there watching the changing view over the bay.  There were times when a mist would roll in and we wouldn't be able to see much at all, then the skies would clear and the sun would shine.  The temps weren't bad at all, and the wind mostly hit the front (Gulf) side of the house, so we had a lovely sheltered spot to enjoy!

And the kids had a blast with the air hockey table, too!  I'm sorry I didn't manage to get Nathanael in this picture - they all three played at this for hours, when they weren't off fishing with Papa or looking for hermit crabs on the beach.

And the remaining member of our family (the one who had to stay behind) was SO glad to see us when we got home!  I tried to snap this picture quicker - Bree literally launched herself at Bill and planted a foot on each side of his neck and HUGGED him!

So we finished out our vacation as a stay-cation, which was ok - it was restful and we even got to see a movie!  But now it's time to get back to work.  As I said, I did the taxes this morning, which is a huge weight off my shoulders.  I don't know why I always leave it so long - it's not really that hard, I just hate to do them!  So now that those are done, I can work without guilt.  Let's see just what I might do this week!

1.  Keep working on ministry quilts.

2.  Quilt a customer quilt.

3.  Work on clearing out a planter in the yard. (It's spring, y'all!)

4.  Keep plugging through the last of the fabric organizing.

5.  Make the back for the hexie quilt.

I'm going to stop there so I can get down to it!  I'm looking forward to this week - how about you?

So now, I really need to know - - - what are YOU working on this week?

Hugs!

Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge Week #3 - Meet Our 1st Guest Blogger, Kat!

Hi, all!

Welcome back for another week of fun as we continue this year's Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge!  I'm so excited to report that we now have 141 people signed up for the Challenge - isn't that amazing? I just love how quilters always step up when the call goes out for comfort quilts.  It's the best thing about our community!

This week we are starting our guest blog posts, and it will be a little different this year.  In the past, the guest bloggers have always posted right here on my blog, but this year I want you to go over and visit their blogs!  It will make each guest post a surprise for me too, as I won't be able to view it until it posts on Sunday, and I'm excited about that!

Today our guest blogger is Kat from Scrap Box Quilts.  I love the tag line on her blog header:  "I want to .... make a difference".  That's such a great life philosophy!!  Kat is going to share a simple quilt tutorial with you, and I for one can't wait to see it!  If you'll click on the name of her blog in the first line of this paragraph, you'll be taken directly to the post.  And while you're there, take a look around!  Kat has a regular Friday post with links to some cool stuff she's found on other blogs on the internet (and I'm always looking for new blogs to follow, aren't you?)

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

There are two more things I want to share with you!  First of all, in my weekly email from Amy of Diary of a Quilter, she shared a link to her most popular free quilt tutorial.  If you're looking for another great simple quilt to add to your repertoire, this is definitely a winner.  Be sure to check it out!

And the second one is this amazing story about a 100 year old librarian/quilter who made a "banned books" quilt recently.  Her story is quite inspiring, and well worth a few minutes to watch!

See you next week!!

Hugs!
