Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Finally Done!

Hi, all!

Here it is, Friday again! Are you ready to get your whoop whoop on?  I've got a couple of things I'm really doing the happy dance over this week - so I am ready for my whoop whoops!

First of all, I want to start off with the finished pictures of the quilt I made for a friend just diagnosed with breast cancer

I love the texture the quilting gives this quilt!

And now, the quilt I despaired of ever finishing

My Swoon quilt!!!

This started out as a vacation quilt last summer, but I really didn't enjoy making the blocks so it got shelved as a UFO.  Once I decided to give it away as a wedding present, the deadline made me get to work on it.  Tuesday morning I had two and a half blocks to go, so I buckled down and got them finished - and then put the sashing and borders on too!

And truthfully, as much as I hated making these blocks, I love the finished top!  I think it may have just been the colors - they really aren't my favorites - so someday I may make another Swoon quilt using colors I love.

So that's my whoop whoop for the week!!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's made you dance the happy dance this week?

Share!  We want to dance along with you!

The party will remain open until Sunday night,

So there's plenty of time to join in!

Hope to see you there!

Hugs!

Make-A-List Monday - #1 - Get New Internet Service...

Hi, all!

Guess what?  It's Tuesday, Tax Day, and winter is back again in Middle Tennessee!  It was 82 degrees yesterday, and this morning we're having snow flurries.  The weather has been wreaking havoc with my internet service, so I'm sitting in Panera drinking a cinnamon latte and using theirs to write this post  But I did notice a great potential quilting pattern in the upholstery of the seat behind my computer screen!

So I guess it's not a total waste of time to be here.  You never know where you'll find inspiration, do you?

But now it's time (past time!) to get down to business and see how I did on last week's list

1.  Quilt and bind four quilts for current ministry requests.
Done!  In order below, these went to a woman diagnosed with a rare cancer immediately after giving birth, a breast cancer survivor now diagnosed with brain cancer, a mother of five Down's Syndrome children (four of them adopted) just diagnosed with breast cancer, and a woman who just lost her son to suicide.

2.  Make a quilt for a friend just diagnosed with breast cancer.
Done!  The weather wasn't good enough to take pics yesterday (rain and lots of wind to go with those 82 degree temps) but here's proof that it's done...

3.  Iron the interfacing onto the t-shirts (commission quilt).
Woohoo!!!  Done!!!  The hard part is over - now on to the piecing of the top!!

4.  Finish the Swoon blocks.
Have I told you how much I despise making these blocks?  I managed to get three more finished, for a total of six, and I have the seventh laid out ready to sew together this morning.  I'm hoping to knock out all three remaining blocks today so I can start putting the top together!

5.  Quilt the first granny square baby quilt.
I didn't get to this one.  Fortunately this baby isn't due until May!

6.  Pull yard sale items.
I did pull out some big items and sent them to my daughter's house but there's still plenty more to weed through!

7.  Keep up with any other ministry needs that arise.
Done!  The first quilt is going to a woman just diagnosed with colon cancer, and the second to a man with a brain tumor.

So even though I didn't get everything done, I'm happy with how last week's list went.  Here's what's on my plate for this week

1.  Finish the last three Swoon blocks.

2. Cut the sashing for the commission t-shirt quilt.

3.  Quilt the granny square baby quilt.

4.  Assemble the donated Celtic Solstice quilt top.

5.  Write a post for the Piece*Love*Quilt blog.
(Hopefully in the next fifteen minutes!)

6.  Keep up with ministry needs as they arise. There aren't any on the list right now but that can change drastically in the course of a few minutes.  So I'll make hay while the sun shines on the other things on my list in the meantime!

7.  Pull more yard sale items for my daughter.

8.  If weather and time permits,
work on a new planter in the front yard.

Okay, I think that's enough!  I've definitely got my work cut out for me today, and we'll see how the rest of the week goes after that.

So now the question is - - - what are YOU working on this week?

Hugs!

Hands2Help - Thank You For Your Quilty Hugs!

Hi, all!!

Today we're welcoming the first of our five guest bloggers for the Hands2Help Challenge!  I was so happy when Emily volunteered to do a guest post - hers was one of the first blogs I found way back when and I've always enjoyed keeping up with her.  She comes up with beautiful scrappy quilt designs that always make me smile.

If you haven't read her blog, Em's Scrapbagyou ought to check it out!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

I am so thankful to Sarah for once again choosing to have Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo be one of the donation destinations for all your generously made quilts.  I know they make a huge difference.  I hear over and over again the hope and love the recipients feel when they receive their quilty hug.  Let me share a recent thank you letter.

 Hi Ginger,
I have been following Happy Chemo since 2011. My family and I are huge supporters. This time last year my aunt on my husbands side lost the fight to cancer. However thank you to your beautiful blanket you gave her it is being passed along to one chemo patient after another. They absolutely love it and it has been such a healing blanket. I remember when our aunt opened up her gift she was so touched and blown away. It was so good to see her smile. And thank you for that.
Now a year later my grandfather is dying from cancer. My husband and I moved in with him and my grandma so I could be his caregiver. I never knew how hard it could be but at the same time so rewarding. It is so hard watching someone your love dying before you. He has exhausted all options. Cancer really does suck!
Anyway I just wanted to share my aunts story with you and about the traveling quilt.
Thank you so much for all you do and the smiles you create.
I appreciate it so much especially since I have lost someone so dearly to it and now taking care of my grandfather who is dying from it.
Thank you,

These letters warm my heart and I appreciate your generosity in helping to lighten the load of those suffering with this awful disease.  Keep those quilty hugs coming. They are so appreciated.

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Thanks so much for reminding us why we are making these quilts, Emily!  It is wonderful to see the responses of people who receive them.  Just a small reminder, at least for me, of the real reason we quilt.

Remember too, that next week is our first check-in date!  I'll have a linky set up so you can link up your progress - or lack of it (and believe me, I'm right there with you!)  But I'm hearing about all kinds of quilting going on for the challenge, and this is your chance to share!  I hope you'll stop on by and link up - and it doesn't have to be a new post - if you've posted about your H2H quilt in the recent past, feel free to link up that post.  That will be next Sunday, April 20th!

Hugs!

Sarah
