The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting - A Book Review!

Hi, all!

Recently I was given the opportunity to review a new book by Christa Watson and Angela Walters called The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting - and I can’t wait to tell you about it!!

This is a really interesting book, and unique in that it discusses both long-arm and sit-down machine quilting options for each project.  In the beginning of the book, each quilter introduces herself and her preferred method of quilting, then shares the tools of the trade that they recommend and their own tips on becoming a better quilter.

Then there are the projects - ten quilts, each one created and quilted differently by Christa and Angela.  Most of these quilts have a very modern feel, which is great for showcasing beautiful quilting.  Each quilter created their model in different fabrics, so you can see how different each quilt can look.  It is interesting to see the authors’ different approaches to the quilting, and to read why they chose to quilt each the way they did.  And there are tips spread throughout the book that help answer the questions we all have, such as how to choose thread color and weight, what kind of batting to use, basting techniques - the list never ends!

There’s even a whole-cloth quilt - something I’ve always wanted to try!  Such a great way to let your quilting shine!

As a long-arm quilter myself, I know that there are times when I choose to quilt my quilts at my sit-down machine - and there are other times when I will do half the quilting on the long-arm, then switch over to the sit-down machine to do the rest.  Each machine has its own strengths, and knowing those can help you become a better quilter!  This book is a great resource for any quilter - whether you are new to FMQ or an old hand, use a long-arm or a sit-down machine, you will find something to help you become a better quilter!

And the best news? This book is available today!   You can purchase your very own copy as easily as clicking over to Amazon!  It will be on your doorstep in a couple of days and it's Prime-eligible, so free shipping!

Hugs!

Sarah

  4. Sarah, you described the book so well and captured a lot of what makes it so unique. I love this book so much too and am writing a review for it on Monday. The butterfly whole cloth quilt is on my must-do list and I am pre-washing the fabrics for it right now.
