Hands2Help - Meet Guest Blogger Kathy!

Hi, all!

I know it's hard to believe, but we are rapidly reaching the end of this year's Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge!  Today we welcome our last guest blogger, Kathy, who has a quick and easy (and scrappy) quilt tutorial for us.  And just in case you don't make it to the end of this post, be sure to remember that next week will be your chance to share your Hometown Heroes story!  More about that at the end of the post.  For now, I'm going to turn it over to Kathy!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

 Hi everyone,

My name is Kathy and I blog at Kathy's Kwilts and More. I love to sew and quilt and have been doing so for about 45 years.

I am so excited to be back as a guest blogger for Sarah for her Hands2Help event.    I have done this for the last few years and I have really enjoyed it.      I have already delivered four quilts in the last two weeks to my local project Linus group.   I have a stack of about four to quilt and bind that will go to Primary Children's Hospital here in Utah.

I am mom to five, mom-in-law to three, and grandma to nine.    I work full time as a seamstress and part time teaching sewing and quilting classes at one of my local quilt shops.

Today I have a fun scrap busting project for you.  I am going to give you some basic measurements, but you can cut them whichever sizes you want.

Cut matching pairs of rectangles at 5" x 9.5".  Cut strips at 1"x 9.5".   If you want to add the squares in there you cut those at 1" square.   The sashing between rows is cut at 1.5" wide.

Now you can sew two matching rectangles, one to each side of a 1" strip.  Repeat using all your matching rectangles.  Once you get those sewn together, you need to press the seams.

Sew the rectangles into rows, then assemble the quilt top with sashing between the rows.

You can make this quilt any size you want.

This is a fun one to use up scraps.

I am so excited that you are all joining in Hands2Help!    It is such a great event that Sarah hosts every year.

Thanks, Kathy!  I have a stack of 10" squares that would work up really fast into a fun scrappy quilt top - I think I should go hit the studio!!

And now about next week - if you are a non-blogger feel free to leave your story in a comment on the post so that everyone can read about it.  If you have a blog, we'd all love the chance to visit it so write up a post and share a link to it in next week's linky party.  I've already heard so many great stories related to your Hometown Heroes and I can't wait to hear more.  These people have really made a difference in our lives in the past year and it's an honor to recognize that with something tangible!

See you next week!

Hugs!

Sarah
