Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Baby Steps...

Hi, all!

Here it is, Friday again, and time to get your whoop whoop on!  Are you ready?

I've mostly been working on the remodeling job in my guest room this week - it's coming along pretty well.

Here's how it looked on Monday...
And here's what it looks like today!
I've finished painting the walls and trim, and tomorrow morning I'll paint the ceiling.  Then all the painting will be done and I'll move on to putting up curtains, a fan, and a few other things.  Woohoo!

I had another huge whoop whoop today - Emmy went down without a squeak, put herself to sleep, and slept for two hours at naptime!!  Woohoo!!  That let me do a little sewing on a project for a friend...

My friend came to me Sunday, asking if I could take a look at a tutorial for a weighted blanket that her daughter asked her to make.  Her daughter teaches special ed, and needs one for an autistic child in her class.  My friend was having trouble understanding the tutorial, and when I looked at it, I understood why - very few pictures, not-so-clear instructions - so I told her I'd see what I could find on the web that might be easier to work with.  After many hours of research, I found that there were a lot of tutorials with a little bit of info in each, but no one great tutorial.  So I decided to put one together for her.

I know it doesn't look like much, but this is the start of a completely adjustable weighted blanket that can be made for a minimal investment by even a beginning seamstress.  I'm writing a tutorial as I go that will hopefully help other folks who need one, too.  So far it's working out just as I had hoped, but tomorrow should prove whether it works or not - I'll finish up the pockets and load the weights in.  Keep your fingers crossed!

And here's a giggle for you - during naptime, while I was sitting there thinking how lovely silence is, I heard footsteps on the stairwell.  (Lilli naps downstairs.)  I hollered down for her to get back in bed.  More silence, then footsteps again.  And this is what appeared in the doorway...

I asked her what was on her face, and she responded by asking me what time her alarm clock was set for.  I asked her if she had been in my makeup, and she asked again what time her alarm was set for.  Once more I asked about the makeup, and she said that she tried to wash it off, and what time was her alarm clock set for?  So apparently, this is what staying in bed and leaving Nana's stuff alone during naptime looks like.....   It was very hard not to laugh until she went back to bed!

So that's what I'm whooping about this week!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

And now it's your turn!

What's made you giddy with joy this week?

What accomplishments do you have to share?

Link up and join in - we want to whoop with you!!

The party will stay open until Sunday night -

Be there or be square!

Hugs!

Sarah

  1. I made some of these for my daughter in her line of work - same tube method. Tip - use a funnel to add the 'weight' pieces - I used the plastic pellets you use for toy making.

  2. Loved the little make-up story. My son cut his hair once during nap time. Oh, the little things that they do. Too cute!! Good luck on the weighted blanket. I saw a tutorial for one of those on a sewing show. They used bigger sleeves and filled them with folded sheets, so they could wash it later.

  3. Sarah - how did you DO that?! The wall. Was one colour. And then, ANOTHER! I am clueless about painting walls but would love to hear more.
And yay for the weighted blanket tutorial - what an amazing gift for many, many families.

  4. Wow - what a huge transformation for the room. :) We've got some painting going on over here. Not fun at all doing ceilings. Bleh.

  5. Your room looks lovely. I shopped yesterday for paint and brought home more shades of yellow than I thought could exist... I'm moving from a shared quilting/bed room into a quilting/no bed room! Yeah! I love that single minded quality of children - so innocent.

  6. Oh, that is just too funny. She was totally trying to distract you from the make up . . . pretty clever. I have a 9 month old granddaughter. They came in the other day, her mom sat her down on the floor, and within seconds and amidst all the commotion of the arrival, I noticed her going through her Mom's purse. . . 9 months! I think she'll be trying the make up some day. Thanks for sharing your talents.

  16. I am so happy to hear that Bella is not the only one who gets into mischief, then tries to change the discussion when she is caught. It is so hard to keep a straight face when this happens, but I try.

  17. I'll be really interested in learning more about the weighted blanket. I need one for my son. I was going to buy it from a specialty place but I'd much rather make him one.
