Make-A-List Monday - A Very Different Week Ahead...

Hi, all!

Well, it's been an interesting week - as I said last week, spring has sprung here in Middle Tennessee.  That's evident by the fact that the grass has grown almost six inches (literally!) since it was mowed a week ago, and by the fact that I've got the spring remodeling bug big time!  So before I get into all that, let's look at how pitifully I did on last week's list...

1.  Sew together the HST top on the design wall.
Done!  And I have the fabrics for borders, backing and binding all ready to go...

2.  Tweak the diaper clutch pattern and make one for the shop.
Well, it's tweaked on paper, but I haven't made one yet...

3.  Tweak the quilter's apron pattern and make one for the shop.
Tweaked in my head...

4.  Finish the baby boy quilt for the ministry.
Still sitting on the shelf waiting for time to work on it...

5.  Make an overhead light rack for my long arm machine.
Still just a "pipe" dream (pun intended...)

6. Keep up with the quilt ministry needs.
Done!  Quilted these two, which already have homes...

(Notice the trees above the first quilt? No leaves.  Look at the leaves above the second quilt.  That happened literally overnight!)

I also quilted two other quilts that I haven't photographed yet.

So - pretty pitiful performance, if I hadn't been working on anything else.  But - - - as I said, I've been bitten by the remodeling bug, and I have the perfect need for it.  My mother-in-law passed away a few weeks ago, and my father-in-law will be coming soon for an extended visit.  So I thought this would be the perfect time to (finally!) renovate the guest room, which looks pretty much like it did when we moved in.  I forgot to take a pic before I started working on it, but here's a pic that shows about how it looks this morning...

Pretty dull, dark and depressing.  I've done a lot of work on it already - which explains why I didn't get more done on last week's list.  Took twelve bags of stuff to the Goodwill - clothes that are hopelessly out of style or that we'll never get into again, toys that the girls don't need, lots of sheets and towels and rugs and stuff.  I've still got a few big things to take yet!  How in the world do we manage to accumulate so much stuff?  Well anyway - cleared all the stuff out of the drawers and closet and found new homes for the things that we will keep; cleaned and freshened all the bedding and stored it away for a while (an unused bathtub is a huge storage area!); and spackled all the holes in the wall.  See that big white patch behind the headboard?  That used to be a laundry hookup area!  It was hidden behind a tapestry when we looked at and bought the house; we only found it when we moved in.  Everything had been disconnected but they didn't repair the wall.  So I hung my own wall hanging over it and forgot about it!  But now it's repaired (my skills have improved since we moved in) and hopefully you'll never know it was there after I paint!

So now, the plan is to paint the room a pale yellow with white trim, put up mini-blinds and nice gauzy curtains, a fabric two-way slider in front of the closet, and do a good cleaning and resurfacing of the dresser and nightstand.  All this week!  So here's my list for the week...

1.  Paint all the trim.

2.  Prime the walls.

3.  Paint the walls.

4.  Hang the mini-blinds.

5.  Hang the curtain.

6. Make a fabric slider for the closet doors.

7.  Resurface the dresser and nightstand.

8.  Bind two ministry quilts that are almost done.

9.  Keep up with ministry needs!

10.  Pick out a pattern for my H2H quilt!

11.  Find an easily-understood tutorial for an adjustable weighted blanket for a friend.

I really need to get the room finished this week, because we don't know exactly when our guest will arrive, just that it won't be this week!  But considering I do big projects better with an impending deadline, that's a good thing.  So now I'm off to do some painting and priming.  And I promise to take pictures as I go (gotta have something to put on the blog!)

And now the question is - - - what are YOU working on this week?

Hugs!

Sarah

  1. Today I'm starting the basting of my H2H quilt (and since I've written this down, maybe I'll do it.)
Tomorrow I'm off on a shop hop... so excited.
Love the yellow and white combo. It'll be alot more cheery!

  3. You are a busy person! I am working on my Happy Chemo quilt and hope to get more than halfway done this week. I also was outside yesterday and prepared my garden beds. And I want to work on a number of scrap quilts for the kids for Christmas. Can you believe I am working on Christmas presents already? Best wishes to you and your family (and all your projects).

  5. We have a two bath duplex, and since it is just my husband and I we use the second bath tub for a storage area also.

  6. I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law.
Glad to read that you are going to take pictures of the room's progress. Hope you show what you do to the furniture, too. Don't over do, girl.
I'm working on RSC projects, Barn Along, a BOM and a UFO.

  7. About the lighting over your frame. We had the same setup, unless you got a new frame, so my solution will work for you. You can buy led strip lighting and just clip it to the underside of the shelf. I got some and it's great. Very bright. Make sure you get white, not yellow. It uses almost no electricity too. Bonus!

  8. I'm with you on getting lots of home things done. I just moved into a brand new apartment that's triple the size of the place I moved out of. Before the movers arrive with all the furniture and boxes from there I've been putting together all the new items and getting things set so that when everything arrives it can go right to its new home.

  9. I too am in the middle of the remodel bug, but a little less dramatic - just changed a faucet in a bath and removed the glass shower door and repolaced it with a curtain - not major, but it felt good to get it done since it has been taunting me since we bought the house two years ago. Anyway, I'm sorry that your remodeling was stirred from a loss, but a new fresh room will be nice to greet your father-in-law I;m sure. Lovely quilts by the way - you have been busy even with your remodel! Will be following to see how it all turns out.

  10. I'm working on redoing my boys room from the preschool style to almost ready for middle school!

And I am focusing on quilting and binding the quilts in my massive "I need to quilt it pile" before I make anything new.

  14. I am ready to start my quilt for the orphanage. I also have a baby boy quilt made from a time back. Could you please post the specs for each. Sorry to ask but I have lost them. Moving and quilting is hard on organization. Thanks.
