I May Have A Scrap Problem... Digging Out!

Hi, all!

Well, it's been busy busy busy around here (again!) but at least this week I carved out a little time to dig out from under the catastrophe at the end of my worktable...

That picture looks a little tame, and really isn't indicative of the true state of affairs....

Here's one taken from the other side!  Now you can see just how desperate the situation really was.

I don't really have time right now to do this job properly - take each piece, press it, and cut it into the many various sizes I keep on hand - so I'm going to do the "down and dirty" version of scrap management.  This involves sorting the scraps by color and storing them in tubs underneath my long arm machine.

You may not be able to tell from this picture, but there are stacks for various colors, a stack for orphan blocks, one for batiks (which I store separately) and a stack for solids (one day I WILL make an all-solids scrappy quilt!).

Those stacks are now all tucked away in their appropriate storage tubs, and I have a nice clean worktable once again.

About time!

What scrappy things are you working on this week?

Hugs!

Sarah

  2. I am back to working on taking a pile of 2 1/2" strips of African Dutch wax fabrics that have been sewn with a Kona solid into strip sets to make 16 patch blocks. Last night I needed to put my large cutting mat back on my big 8' x 8' table and there is the pile of papers and who know what else, that I have been shoving around. I need to get rid of that pile!

  3. I'm playing with some charm packs--one of solids and one of prints to blend together!

  4. Thank you for including the 9-11 reminder in your posting. It's so important that we not forget what happened that day. It wasn't/isn't politics, it was an evil terrorist act.

  5. Instead of plowing through my personal scraps, which have taken on a life of their own, I bought a number of Jen Kingwell patterns to work on with then. First sorting for color or pattern, then setting to work. I really value my scraps, and hate to see them just used up to be rid of them. I am still in love with some of the fabric even if it's down to a tiny HST. The charity quilt scraps are another story. That pile is growing exponentially. Some very scrappy quilts need to happen soon. We've been combing your archives, Sarah!

  6. I just finished the blocks for a quilt for my Dad and I've been playing with the scraps from that. I'm thinking a little table runner for myself! I have this great scrap sorting system that involves different baskets, but in the heat of creativity it all become one giant pile to be sorted later. Sigh.

  7. 3 days ago I decided to spend 15 minutes a day sorting my laundry basket of scraps by color. There are so many scraps in there and I'm hoping I'll start using them once they are sorted by color.
