Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? A Purpose for Some Long-Loved Fabric....

 

Hi, all!

Well, Friday has rolled around once again, and we all know what that means - - - it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  Let's get started....

I have to admit, as I write this, that I'm not feeling much to whoop about right now.  I live in Tennessee, and if you've been following the news, you know that our state legislature has done some pretty reprehensible things today in the wake of the mass shooting two weeks ago in a Nashville private school.  So that's been affecting my mood today pretty badly.

But - - - as I was working in my studio today, pressing fat quarters to go into my new storage system, I came across a bundle of fat quarters I've had for almost as long as I've been quilting - about fourteen years now!

I bought this fabric, Far Far Away by Heather Ross, because I loved the prints and thought I'd use it for my eldest granddaughter, Lilli.  But she turned out to be more of a Dr. Seuss kind of kid, and this beautiful fabric, printed on linen, sat in my stash.  Every so often I'd pull it out and pet it, trying to think of what to use it for.  I mean, look at this Rapunzel...

So stinking cute - but I didn't have any project I deemed worthy to cut into it for.  But now my son-in-law's cousin, who I have known since she was knee high to a grasshopper, is having her first baby, and shared this picture of the sheets for her baby's nursery...

And I realized, as I was sorting through those fat quarters today, that they would be perfect!!!  The new mom agreed, so now I just have to come up with the perfect design to showcase these beautiful fabrics.  I bet I can use up some of the scraps of vintage Irish linen I have, too.  We shall see!

So - - - can I get a whoop whoop?

  4. How fun to discover that bundle with those cute designs. I love the owl and the pussycat, but the others are fun, too! There is a lot of sadness in our world right now, so a little cheery fabric is good therapy.

  6. How wonderful you can now use that gorgeous fabric for a gift that will never be forgotten. I'd put the total focus on the fabrics - do 'framed' pictures and fussy cut in various sizes (to again focus the prints) and use the blue from the Rapunzel, a medium gray, the deep goldenrod and the lovely orange - take colors from the fabrics to make the varying sized frames. You could use your lovely linen for sashing and borders. Maybe a reversible quilt? The other side could be hexagons (medium to larger sizes) using all those lovely colors from the sheets, the nursery wall, and your fabrics to make the quilt truly special. Maybe even use some family photos to showcase in some of those hexagons, too, which can be great teaching moments for the little one about their family. I love reversible quilts - hate to 'waste' the back side by going the standard one color or using scraps in blocks when BOTH sides can be fun. Deb E / Calif.

  8. What a great bundle! Check out the Craftsman pattern by Amy Smart. It has big and small pieces and only takes 6 FQ's or more for variety for a crib size!
    It's hard to grasp what's going on this world but I still hold the opinion that there are sommany more good than evil people. We good ones need to be more vocal and we all need to bring the good more into focus than the evil whenever we can! Like your program that's running right now!

  9. Your fabrics are amazing, and I'm so glad your cousin agreed! You will find something awesome to showcase the beautiful fairy tale print. I look forward to seeing what that is. =) Whoop, whoop!

    I'm excited about a potato chip quilt, about my prairie points blocks, about working with my granddaughter on her sampler quilt and spending 2 hours stamping ONE card each, laughing and talking way too much. Card Wisdom: If it bugs you, eat it. (with a frog stamp set)
