I May Have A Scrap Problem... But I'm In Therapy!

Hi, all!

Well, I didn't make "scrappy sewing" one of my New Year's Resolutions, but maybe I should have - because I have FINALLY been doing some fun scrappy sewing!

I'm working on the quilts for this year's tutorial series, String Therapy, so I grabbed my blue drawer of strings and a stack of white 5" squares that have been in my scrap drawer F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

This is the block I chose to make.  It's from a tutorial by Christina Cameli and wow is it a quick and easy scrap buster!  This first block went up on the wall Monday afternoon.....

...and by 4:00 on Tuesday afternoon, I had completed all the blocks for this quilt!  There's only one problem, though.....

There's still a LOT of strings left to go back into the blue drawer!  As someone else suggested, I think they replicate when you aren't looking!

This tutorial series will begin on either January 24th or January 31st - I haven't quite nailed the date down yet - and run through February and end right before the start of Hands2Help 2021.  If you want to start getting ready, I suggest organizing your strings so that they are ready to go.  Mine were all jumbled up in one tub, so I pressed my strings, folded them and sorted them by color. That worked for me, but may not work for you.  But however you organize them, it goes much faster if they are neat and ready to be used!

Now that you know what I've been working on, let me know - have you been plowing into your scraps?  Did you make any New Year's Resolutions about your scraps? Or are they just sitting there replicating themselves, unsupervised?

Hugs!

Sarah

  2. I works scraps all the time, but not in strip form. I have the Estate fabrics here after the guild went thru them and plan to use this years Strip Patterns to work thru those.

  3. Mine are replicating unsupervised. I have so many bins of unsorted scraps it is a bit overwhelming. I have thought about just dumping them but haven’t been able to bring myself to do that....yet. Who knows I may get there.

  4. Yes, I have been digging out scraps, my mystery Scrap Dance is starting Friday and I have to get ahead like you. Love this string block!! I think I have some jelly roll strips that would work for it.

  9. I have been working on my scrap bins for some years. Actually scrap quilts is really my jam. Last year I made quilt a few things out of scrap bins.......go visit my blog to see some of the stuff I made from scraps. The thing is that I never seem to even break even and the scraps continue to multiply.

I just love your logcabin inspired scrap quilt!!! What a great quick way to dive into a pile of strings and use some of them up.

  11. Oh! That's a great scrap buster block, Fast, simple, yet catchy, eye-candy, my kind of quilt. I might have to copy that one, Sarah.
I don't do resolutions; I do challenge. This year I challenge myself to move more. That's it. 15-minutes a day 5 times a week is my goal. Put music on and dance for 15 minutes, go for a longer walk, whatever as long as I move. Sounds doable. Also want to work on tops and get them quilted. Oh and make HST blocks for the rest of my life. ;^)

  17. That quilt is so pretty! I've been working on string blocks with piecing on paper like my mom and I did when I was a kid.
I thought I had more done than I did. It's a lot of work. LOL I'm just doing a lap quilt to donate. I have strings left, but not enough to group in colors.

  18. Wow, love those blocks! I'm always scrappin' but have not yet really done a deep dive into the strings. I do have two UFOs using some but admit I've long wanted to do a project focusing on making a BIG dent in them. Maybe your tutorials can scratch that itch!
